Official Review: A Poet's Diary by Tarun Vats

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "A Poet's Diary" by TARUN VATS.]

A Poet’s Diary, Tarun Vats, 2 Stars

This short book is a collection of poems by first time author Tarun Vats. I am normally impressed with any author putting out poetry written based on their own personal experiences and emotions because putting all your feelings out on paper for the world to read is not an easy task. This book is no different.

The author shares fifteen deep poems that express happiness, sadness, questions about themselves and general experiences. So basically any reader can relate to at least one poem in this collection if not more.

The wording used though out the collection were quite unique. I appreciated that it wasn’t a “Roses are red” type of poems. Some of them made me take a moment to myself to think about my own situations and how I felt about them personally. There was actual deep meaning in the lines. I also appreciated the humbleness in the Preface where the author described how he came about writing these pieces and putting the collection together. Also I really liked the cover art work!

I did recognize one religious comment, but I don’t see it as a religious poem or collection.

This book did have some issues though. Poetry can be tricky to format because you are not necessarily dealing with full sentences. But there were definitely lines that could have been tightened up or cleaned up with commas or even semi colons. There were also a few grammar issues.

I rated this book 2 out of 4 stars because it is for all intensive purposes a “Fair” rating. The book had some very good literary lines and I was impressed with the raw emotion in such a short collection. It is something that I would recommend to other artists or authors to read to see how lines can be fleshed out through words. But I wouldn’t necessarily recommend to friends or family because of its technical issues. I do hope the author Tarun Vats continues to write. As long as the technical issues are worked on, this may be the beginning of something very special!
