Dagger's Destiny is the title of the second book in Linnea Tanner's Curse of Clansmen and Kings series, which began with "Apollo's Raven." The book is historical fiction about the Celtic people in the time of Britannia and the Ancient Roman Empire. Linnea Tanner beautifully integrates magic, fantasy, and history in this book to provoke intense excitement and thrill. Readers will get to know fascinating characters like Catrin, King Amren, Marcellus, Ferrex, and Marrock. The protagonist of the book is Catrin, King Amren's daughter. King Amren was a heartless man who executed his first wife, Queen Rhan, for treason. He hardly got along with his daughter, Princess Catrin. In the book, a druid cursed King Amren to die terribly, but the King wasted no time accusing the princess of bringing the curse upon him. Princess Catrin was banished after King Amren accused her of treason. Princess Catrin is then forced to become a warrior to prove her loyalty and break the curse. However, the princess was involved in a forbidden love affair with a Roman prisoner, Marcellus, and helped him escape during a prisoner exchange that caused harm to the King. Now she must choose between her father (duty) and Marcellus (love), bearing in mind that the King will die terribly if the curse succeeds. Was the princess able to break the curse? Did her love for Marcellus blossom? Find out!

I like many things about this exciting book by Linnea Tanner. The author's writing style appeals to me. The plot was painstakingly described by the author in detail and logically. I like good imagery, and the book consumed my mind as I read through its pages. I couldn't help but imagine myself getting healed with wet kisses. The addition of poems and light songs in the book is relaxing. For example, "...Gather around and heal me with your wet kisses." The author is creative. The author excellently researched the setting of the book. I like the book's cover; it is graphic and informative. The voice of the narrator is soothing and delightful. He employed light humor in the book, easing the rush of suspense. I also like the idea of shapeshifting.

I didn't appreciate that my favorite character and shapeshifter, Marrock, has a beautiful wife and still desires to have the princess. I dislike polygamy and cheating spouses. I am still waiting to see the book's list of characters or a glossary. I needed help remembering the names of people in the book. A list of characters may come in handy. The author should consider including a list of characters in his next edition to make up for this. However, the detailed map in the book was helpful. I could navigate freely and remember the names of places used in the book.

The book Dagger's Destiny by Linnea Tanner is exceptionally edited, exciting, suspenseful, adventurous, historical, full of fantasy, and well-structured. Given the circumstances, I rate the book Dagger's Destiny by Linnea Tanner a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend the book Dagger's Destiny by Linnea Tanner to readers who fancy historical fantasy and books about betrayal and politics. Readers of this book will learn about politics, warfare, tactics, fighting techniques, betrayals, and teenage love affairs.
