Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is a story that revolves around two siblings, Mary Grace Miller and Donny Miller. Mary Grace is the first child of their parents, Mr. John Miller and Mrs. Jen Miller, and she's a fifth grader that is 10 years old, while her younger brother, Donny, is 5 years old and has Down syndrome. Donny's a very positive-spirited boy who always saw everything he was engaged in as an adventure and tried to get the best out of every situation.

The Miller family lived in a city called Wichita. Mary Grace attended Heartland Elementary, and Donny also attended the same school, but was in a special class due to his condition. Mr. Miller had served as the priest and rector of St. James Episcopal Church for more than ten years. The Millers lived in the rectory right next to the church—which was a great place to bring up the kids. Mrs. Miller is a civil engineer that loves her job designing water systems for the city.

The story starts off with an incident. The Millers went to the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, and Donny was missing. This made his family members worried, as they were just with him when he suddenly disappeared. Had he wandered off? Was he in danger? Did someone take him? That's what raced his sister, Mary Grace’s mind. Thanks to two teenage boys, and announcements through the loudspeakers, everyone joined in to search for Donny. Donny is later found sleeping on a tram, which helps calm everyone's need to worry, and his family was happy to see him.

What I liked about this book was the love shared within the family for one another. Donny was such a high-spirited boy, even with his condition. He was always happy, cheerful, and very likable. Mary Grace was a very intelligent young girl, and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, were the best parents any kid could wish for.

I am rating this book five out of five stars because there was nothing to dislike about the book, as it was a really nice book. I did not find any grammatical or spelling errors, which means it was well-edited. Furthermore, I recommend this book to readers who love adventurous stories.

I enjoyed the relationship between Donny and his sister here. Mary Grace did all to protect, even at the expense of being outcasted. That’s a great attribute of a big sister. Nice review!

I have noticed that most “missing” children tend to be very confused at the worry shown by the people looking for them. After all, the children knew where they were.

I'm quite interested in knowing the peak of the plot in this story. However, I'm also glad that Donnie was found on time. I look forward to more of the family's adventures. Interesting review.

One thing I loved about this book was the relationship between Donny and Mary Grace. She loved her brother regardless. It's rare to see that kind of love in humans. Amazing book; Amazing review.
