A baby bear engages her mom in a conversation about the nature of motherhood. The conversation reveals amazing information about the role of the ideal mother, so exceptional that I couldn't help getting emotional over the depth of mothers' love.

What is a Mom? is a children's storybook written by Carolyn Cutler Hughes. Carolyn did her best to make this story an interesting read, just like she did with her other children's storybook, The Living Tree.

The narration is fluid and engaging, and that sustained my interest while reading. The story alternates between questions and answers, and this creates a favourable environment for an active readership.

This story explores the depth of the ideal mother's love, and I appreciate the author for raising this awareness. The ideal mother can go to any length to make her children comfortable and happy. The word choices made in describing these are so potent that they can melt the toughest of hearts.

The author showed how the ideal mother uses everything about her, including her body parts and emotions, to satisfy her children's needs, and I admired that. For example, the narrator testifies, "A mom is someone who has shoulders to carry me
when I don’t feel like walking" (page 16).

The illustrations are beautiful. The various paintings of the baby bear and mother bear are enthralling. Apart from being a wonderful writer, Carolyn is also a great artist, and her paintings are amazing. I enjoyed this story and would like to read more publications from her.

I didn't come across any grammatical errors while reading this book. I commend the author for giving it a thorough edit. I am very glad to rate this storybook five out of five stars, judging by the above positive aspects. I don't have any negative concerns about the book, so there is no reason to rate it lower. I recommend this storybook to readers between four and eighteen years old.
