Fifty Shades of Grey hooked me with the first two in the trilogy. However, by the third and last book I was fed up with her inner Goddess. The book was too repetitive for my taste. I skimmed the ending of the book because I simply could not read it anymore-- too much repetition-- sex included. There are better erotica out there in my opinion.

I actually read this series before it was the series lol. I mean as a fanfic it was one of the first hot and "edgy" ones that I came across so of course it had my attention, but wow IMHO it was not supposed to be turned into a real publication. There are many other erotic books out there, written in a way where its not just "smut".

I must be the only one who couldn't stand Fifty Shades trilogy, but then I didn't like Stephenie Meyer's books either.

I read them all. It's different, I liked it because it wasn't like anything I had read before. Now would I pick up another erotica book, probably not.

I did read an interesting article stating that the reason they were so popular was he to the fact that women are in control of so much now a days that they liked the idea of not having to be "in control" in the bedroom.

If you are interested, just read the book. You can always stop reading if you are dissatisfied. Otherwise, you are giving it inadvertant publicity. As Bighuey wisely says, read one porno erotica, you've read 'em all.

I agreee as well if you are interested just read, you cant always make a judgement call based on others,
(Though they help sometimes) you yourself must make the choice if you like it or not.

I agree with some of the posts. The entire first book was an introduction of the Trilogy, which is annoying in-and-of-itself. I wasn't even interested or moved to read the other two books. There was a lot of repetition too, even the sex was almost the same everytime. Honestly, I have read historical romances that are more erotic than this book, well book 1 anyway.

50 Shades of Grey in my opinion was a very poorly executed series. Yes, I read all three books and really felt I wasted my time. The author needs to learn new words because it was very very redundant

I loved this trilogy. The story line was great and I loved how he characters grew throughout each book. I did get bored with the constant sex scenes but once that happened I just skipped threw it. Overall I couldn't put the books down.

I have...sadly...read the 50 shades trilogy and was sadly disappointed. It was rather poorly written and was a disappointment for all of the hype surrounding.

I've only skimmed the series out of curiosity and so I could commiserate with my mother who was reading it only to support her best friend (who read the series, loved it and isn't even a sporadic reader). I found that the language was very simple and repetitive and that Ana was too naive and childish for a woman her age - particularly since we had such great access to her inner thoughts. Some of the erotic scenes were presented in a way that suggested even the author didn't find them particularly hot. It was just not a success for me in any way other than to draw more awareness to the genre.

I read all the books in the Fifty Shades collection. At least they are entertaining and on the borderline of reading a porno, but the author tries very hard to provide the characters with human traits that could potentially be identified in real life. Like I said they were entertaining and I read them very quickly, it is not difficult reading by any means. I can understand why the series is so popular being taboo and whatnot, now there are several types of this kind of series available, but I do not think they will come close to Fifty Shades. I was a good read, but would not recommend it because it is pretty explicit -- except to maybe my sister who would not take offense.

I read the first book this summer only because I was fed up with seeing ads about it, hearing about it or being asked about it. I was skeptical from the very beginning and working my way through the pages my skepticism didn't turn into something else. It remained there. I couldn't wrap my head on why people were falling in love with Mr. Grey, or why they liked Ana so much. Not to mention the erotic scenes. I found the sexual content of the book rather disturbing and Mr. Gray's speech tedious and sometimes even annoying.
I didn't bother reading the rest of the books, since the first one clearly didn't hold any positive effect on me. But maybe the problem's in me.

The book really is similar to twilight in that theres a skinny pale girl and a handsome guy who is totally devoted to her and is harmful in some way to her but cannot resist. Except there is a bunch of sex and despite being seen as a bdsm book, I did not really find it to be at all like a bdsm novel.

Believe it or not in this trilogy there is actually a storyline in there. I just wish it didn't take 3 books to get to the point. Just focuses on how dysfunctional the male hero is and by involving himself in the relationship all his inner childhood stuff comes out and he must deal with it. I hear mixed reviews on it and I thought it was interesting once yoh leave out all the erotica part, and the relationship developed over the story. You may want to wait for the movie, save you all that reading for a two hour movie!
