Modern-day Oregon isn't a place I would want to visit. I am curious as to why Nick wanted to go to Oregon; all that I was aware that the Oregon trail entailed was the Gold rush. A lot of people left the midwest and attempted the dangerous trip. This sounds interesting. Good review.

I would have never chosen to watch a historical movie, thus never really read historical fiction books. Now I am thinking I have shorted myself on some great stories. I have only read about three other historical fictions but I absolutely loved them :) I will definitely have to add this to my list. For whatever reason I think the perseverance and survival themes really make these books interesting. Thank you for the review!

If you enjoy Westerns, you’ll probably like this book. Alas, that era sounds boring to me. I’ll try the sample though, I might be pleasantly surprised!

However l hope Nell who has forcely taken her mother's position to care for the dad will end well and their movement to different environment will help clear some bitter past. I love to read more.

This seems like a fun western, but not to my liking. Although it's well written and has a terrific Preface from which to kick off the story, I prefer westerns, set during this period of American history, that are far grittier in tone. However, I believe there is a ready and willing audience for a novel such as this, and I wish the author much success in gathering an appreciative readership.

Nell is girl who was forced to act like an adult since she was 11 years old. This book seems emotional, so I would like to give it a try. Congrats!

Ok, this book is amazing. And Nell is a very amazing character, she had to become an adult at the age of 11. It's a book I'd recommend for anyone to read.

When I started reading this book, I intended only to sample it. However, I found myself spending hours on end in the delightful company of brave young Nell, her unfortunate mother and father, the folks trailing along with their wagons. Although far from being my kind of adventure book, the novel surprised me with a wonderful narrative style, good plot, and well-rounded characters.
Thanks for the great review!

I'd like to read up and see how Nell had to grow fast in the wake of her mother's death for a book set in Frontier America. Well done on the review

Losing family members and stepping up to take the tasks of an adult at the young age of 11 must’ve been hard for Nell. I think I might enjoy this story; thank you for introducing it!

In this day and age when technology is at the forefront and everything is digitized, to hear about the use of donkeys and horses is quite refreshing. Reminds me of the simpler times when we were able to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. It was also a time when young kids were forced to become the adults and take responsibility while the actual adults played havoc. In short, sometimes it's nice to be reminded of these things, from a book like this. Thank you for your review.

I wonder how Nell would cope with losing her baby brother and mother. And it wouldn't be an easy task for her to take care of her dad and the farm. I love the plot of this book. Amazing review.
