Suppose you ran away two years ago with your family's money from your home to New York City to pursue your dream of becoming an actor. How would you feel if you returned home, unfulfilled? Jace Grazer, the protagonist of the book A Walk Through the Grapes, feels the same way. The story of what happened to him upon his return is told in this novel by David Jackson. The book also shows how Jace struggles to fit in after his return home, despite a warm welcome.

The family of six, Robert and Marie and their 4 children, lived in their ancestral home with a vineyard, in the suburbs of the small town, Willowcreek. As a way of getting together with their friends, Dane, the older son, had organized a bonfire for Jace. The brothers discovered a mysterious metal door buried in the soil in the woods when they were collecting wood for the bonfire. As it was getting late for the evening, they agreed not to mention anything about the metal door.

Meeting his old flame with her present boyfriend and a flirty Dane, starts off an alcohol-fuelled fight between the brothers. From that night on, the story begins.

In my opinion, what made this story so riveting was the author's ability to make us imagine the scenarios he constructs from the very start. He draws the reader into that world, whether it's the description of Willowcreek or Jace’s dream towards the end. Characterizations given to every character, distinguishing them by their portrayal is my personal favourite like Robert is a strict but loving father who can do anything to protect his family from harm. This book also managed to capture my attention with its suspense. These are the points that I love the most in the book.

There was nothing I disliked about this book, since there were no shortcomings. The author did not confuse us when switching between Jace's past and present lives. I felt like the transition was gradual.

Professionally edited and proofread, there are no mistakes in the book. Throughout, the author has maintained the quality of a suspenseful family drama. As the book maintains a steady pace and contains a borderline sex scene, it is suitable for young adults.

It is a five out of five stars from me for A Walk Through The Grapes by David Jackson. I recommend this book to the people who enjoy suspense thrillers involving family-dramas and also for the young adult audience.
