Review of The Passage At Moose Beach
Yearly, Alicia and her parents usually spend the summer at the lake. Her mother's parents owned a cabin, so they stayed there during their time at the lake. An excited Alicia was happy throughout the journey, and her joy doubled when her father told them they should row to the beach on the other side of the lake. Kate, Alicia's mother, opposed the idea and worried about the weather and the possibility that it might rain, but Alicia and her father, Richard, said they would be back before it rained and row to the beach without Kate. After a pleasant time at the beach, the clouds began gathering, and Richard decided it was time to go home. While preparing the boat for sailing, Alicia noticed a movement in the bush. Curious to know what was there, she ran to the bush to confirm what was flickering around. Alicia looked intently and saw something; she stepped forward to look more and was gushed instantly by the wind to a different place called the Wild Side. The Wild Side is drying up due to Gran'Tree's actions. Find out in this book the connection Alicia has with the Wild Side, how Gran'Tree is the cause of the drying, and if Alicia will ever reunite with her family again.
One of the things I appreciate about the book is the author's narrating style. The author told the story of Alicia's journey in the Wild Side in such a way that the reader couldn't help but feel like they were on the voyage with her. I felt every bit of emotion that developed in the story. When the foxes attacked Alicia and her squirrel friend, I was scared and didn't know how they would survive. Another scene that made me cry was when she and her animal companions bounded with Bristleback just for him to die on the verge of victory. That scene got me emotional.
Alicia is my most loved character in the book. I love her courage, strength, spirit, and attitude toward life. Her story is a big motivator for children her age to be still and courageous when faced with challenges and unable to get their parents to help. Alicia isn't a crybaby and fared well through all that life threw at her on the Wild Side.
I dislike nothing about The Passage At Moose Beach by Michael Foster. It is an exciting read for both children and adults. It would have been exceptionally well-edited, but for the minor error, I found in it. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars for its intriguing plot and the images used to complement the story.
I recommend this book to parents, teachers, young adults, and adults who enjoy reading adventure and fiction stories. Also, children between 3 and 9 years old would enjoy this book but should be supervised by an adult who can explain some things to them.
