Review of Mr Sloth Crosses The Road
Mr. Sloth Crosses the Road is an illustrated children's book written by Lydia Ola Taiwo. It follows the adventures of Mr. Sloth, a sloth in the woods, as he accidentally follows a path that leads him to a city—a city filled with human beings. The book can be read in one sitting as it contains twenty-seven pages. It is written from a third-person perspective. The tone of the narration was sweet and fun.
A bored Mr. Sloth follows an unknown path in the forest. Despite how unending it seemed, he was determined to follow it to the end. Exhausted, he even fell asleep. When he wakes, he is disoriented, seeing humans walking around and so many cars and other vehicles on the road. Overwhelmed, he stood by the side of the road, frozen, and then there came a little girl who explained how to cross this busy road safely. However, will Mr. Sloth make it to the other side of the road safely?
The illustration was great, and I enjoyed it. It captured what is in the reader’s mind and brought it to life. The character development, especially for Mr. Sloth, was done artfully by Mrs. Ola Taiwo. I liked the author's writing style, which made the book engaging and entertaining to read. I liked the lessons that are taught in this book. It would teach children what a zebra crossing is and how to cross the road properly by looking left and right first. I loved the humor infused into the book. For example, consider how long it took Mr. Sloth to cross the zebra crossing. It is a short, beautiful story that shows the importance of perseverance.
This book would be perfect for kids who have anxiety. Mr. Sloth was anxious about his new environment, and the most daunting challenge of all was to cross that busy road. At the point where the drivers got angry and started honking their honks, I could understand how Mr. Sloth felt at that moment. Battling with fear, anxiety, and angry drivers was a lot for Mr. Sloth. However, he pushed through this despite everything going on, and this is something we need to teach our children.
There was nothing to dislike in this book, so I’m giving it a perfect rating of five out of five stars. I discovered no grammatical errors, as the book seems to have been professionally and exceptionally edited. I recommend this book to children under seven. It would be perfect for a bedtime story and a picture book. It is also perfect for children battling anxiety.
