Re: The Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy

My favorite thing about this series was that it brought a whole new genre mainstream. Now people are TALKING about sex. It's awesome. That said, this is probably one of the more poorly written series I have ever read. I felt like it was written by an 8th grader with an overactive imagination and colorful language. Even by the end of the first book, I was so sick of hearing her talk about her "inner goddess." Of course, I still continued on because I was hooked on the story. I wanted to know what happened to the characters, where it led them, where they ended up. I got to the point where I started to skim over the sex scenes-- and not because they were too much for me, or made me uncomfortable, but because by the end of the first book, I felt like I had already read every combination of sex scene the author could put together. It was boring.

For folks who have not yet read the series, just know this: what this series did was open up the door for more erotica / romance novels to make it to the top. They have always been out there, however, people haven't been as receiving of them as they are now... so if you haven't read the series, I don't think you need to before the movie comes out-- just sit back and relax and watch Charlie Hunnam be sexy and domineering as hell. And if you want some good erotica / romance novels-- the flood gates are open and there are MANY to choose from! Have at 'em!

I liked them - not loved them - but liked them. They were definitely more risque. I don't know much about the actor who is playing Christian, but I can honestly say I do not know how comfortable I would feel watching the film adaptation in a theater.

I started reading this trilogy and expected to think it was ridiculous. Surprisingly I loved the first one!! I thought the story was intriguing and the cliffhanger shocked me. However, the last book was not needed- it was a chore to read and I felt like it was written just so the series had a happy ending. I enjoyed Anastasia's character and thought her inner dialogue was hilarious. However, she could be frustrating since she is so pliable and extremely naive. I think I'm the only woman though who didn't swoon or love Christian Grey. I really disliked him- I thought he was pretentious and irritating. Not because of the controlling and domineering qualities, but because he is so insecure and treats everyone as his minions. All in all I was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to the upcoming movie!

Thank you for letting me know your experience Rnicole. I have been reading books like 50 shades for years, I just found it light and slow. I may take your advice and stay away from #3 and till try again to get through book one again. I do love to read a book before seeing a movie.

I read 50 shades of grey just to see what all they hype was about. I did not find the book interesting enough to continue reading the other two books. I just did not find the book interesting enough to continue. The story was predictable and not that interesting to me.

Last summer was my summer of Grey. I loved the first 2 books but kind of lost interest with book 3. They books were fun and exciting. Read with an open mind. Can't imagine how they will make a movie out of though!
