Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a thirteen-chapter book on financial responsibility and planning out retirement options for the future. It is an easy read even if it includes some financial terms. These were explained well enough for me to grasp the ideas he presented. Although, the author seems to aim this book for American adults in the prime of their life, it was eye opening to me as a young adult since I had not thought of retirement at all. His chapters vary from online financial plans for retirement, health insurance and social security, investments and even wills. Another insight I gained from it were on online jobs, part time jobs and remote working options which are helpful even now as a young adult.
The author provides factual information correlating to retirement and various other career opportunities as we get older – it teaches us how we can adapt to earn and save for our own benefit even as we grow older and our physical and mental capacities limit us. It’s delivered in a very generous and simplistic manner where even readers who are completely clueless about retirement options and financial management (myself included) can understand his message. His suggestions of websites and further reads are also helpful and I will surely be following up on them. Furthermore, his personal experiences that are sprinkled across the book are interesting and allows the reader a glimpse into the real-life scenario of how financial management plays out in reality.
I had never before read a book on finances since it is unrelated to my career but I am glad I selected this book to read. Thank you to E. Alan Fleischauer for an excellent read that was extremely informative and educational.
I would recommend this to adults - young and old (specifically American). There are quite a lot of gems that you can harvest from this book even at a young age, the inclusion of references and examples add to its clarity. There are no instance of profanity or sexual scenarios since it is strictly an educational guide into managing one’s finances and retirement plans. It was excellently edited and I commend the author for it.
The only criticism I have of it is that all the examples and insight lean toward an American audience and I suppose that is what the author intended. As a citizen of a third world country most of the knowledge I gained from this book cannot be fulfilled because of the lack of opportunity and order regarding these matters in my home country. However, it was a splendid read and I am certain American readers would gain just as much as I have if not more from this book. Therefore, considering all the above-mentioned points I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
