Do you think of poems in your head?

When you write poetry, do you start by writing it down or do you think of the whole poem in your head first.

Kanye West and Jay Z both right their rap songs totally in their head. They never write anything down, they said.

I don't write much poetry. When I do, I usually start because I think of a good poem in my head. I don't think of all of it before I start writing it down, but I tend to have already thought of the major lines.

i usually think of a good line or something that i can base a whole poem on. and then i try to remember it until i get somewhere where i can write it down. then once i have paper i can add to it.

If its a shorter poem and there is no paper around, I can usually "write" it in my head which is actually a pretty weird experience, as it just shows how little the act of writing is needed for langauge to be beautiful. But yeah, Iv never tried it with anything more than say, ten shortish lines. And for all I know, it may not be such an effective technique, no doubt the results are rather rubbish .

I think in poetry. I see beautiful and disasterious things in the world and my mind works on rhymes and meter. I usually have a hard time conveying my thoughts into meaningful poetry or songs. They usually sound really cool to read but have vague or lost meaning. I have my first poetry book ready to be written, but it's in my head. lol. Same with a creative nonfiction book.

Mostly I write them down when they gush into me....I wish I could write them in my head,saves time.

I think of a lot but I forget most of what I think. Sometimes I try to remember and it doesn't come out right.

I write poems a lot. Usually, it is easier for me to write a poem when I feel down or mellow. My best friend who ever read my poem told me that I could be so cynical in my poems. But I also think about poems when I'm in a very wonderful feeling.

For some strange reason. Whenever I write a poem, it just writes itself. I rarely think of the poem before I actually write it down.

I tend to think of couplets in my head, then write them down and put them all together. Sometimes a whole poem comes as one piece, but generally they need work.

I have written one poem collection and the second is on its way. It was not self-published.I got a contract. The process of writing always starts with an idea and I write one main idea to a piece of paper. When I add more and more things until everything is complete.

I seem to find myself writing poetry when I am lost in immense thought. At times when there is nothing else I'd rather do, but to put on my headphones and just write. Most of my poetry, I write it at the moment. As each word formulates in my mind, I basically just record it. I don't worry about anything, I don't think about it not sounding right or wrong, I just write it all down. When I write my poetry, I seldom think about it. I just let my emotions guide my writing. It's a little bit hard to explain. It's as if though my brain shuts off, and I just start writing.

Anyways, yeah, I don't think I have ever sat there and wrote an entire poem in my head. That would be something new I would have to try. Sometimes, I might think of a line or two that I would write down and save for a rainy day.
