Review of Terms of Service
Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a science fiction novel in which the setting has been placed in the future. Kim, the leading character, is a young AI trainer. Working at the Artificial Intelligence Company is what she has always wanted. She soon starts feeling stuffed in her routine and constantly seeks a break from the monotony of her daily life. She gets some excitement when she reunites with her best friend, Shan. She finds something she should not have. She begins to question life as she knows it.
250 years into the future, the AIs now control everything. In a house tasked with the duty of attending to its occupants, the refrigerator decides what is best to have for each meal, and the housebot brings coffee, vodka, and painkillers without prompting. Physical cash has been expelled; crypto is now accepted as a means of exchange. Friends are rarely seen face-to-face. Virtual reality is the new norm. The weekdays have been named: one day, two days, three days, and so on.
The book is divided into three parts: spring, summer, and fall. The first part involves a lot of worldbuilding and character development. It starts out slowly so that proper explanation and understanding can be established. The second part reveals how Kim and Shan reunite. Here they get to uncover truths for themselves. The third part shows how Kim begins to rebel at the disposition of the company and her superiors.
The creativity of the author is worth praising. He managed to describe this futuristic world flawlessly. The imagination of the author should be applauded. The plot, characters, and writing helped to portray the authenticity of this book. The book captured my attention. I enjoyed every part of the book. I understand the topic of artificial intelligence better now.
This book is devoid of any negativity. There was nothing I disliked about this book. It is well written. The plot is immaculately developed. It was exceptionally well edited, since I did not find any errors in the entire 255 pages of this book. I must state that it does contain several instances of profanity.
Terms of Service has achieved a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I rated it so because I could not find anything to complain about. I thoroughly recommend this book to audiences who appreciate sci-fi and fantasy. Readers who enjoy books on artificial intelligence should also give this book a read.
