This book is very interesting. From the review, I can see this was based on a true story. Life must have been really tough back then. I admire Baby Doe's courage and determination to survive in tough situations.

By seeing the book title, I was surprised to find out that this story is about a real gold digger, and not just the nowadays meaning it has.

"Gold Digger, The Remarkable Baby Doe Tabor" by Rebecca Rosenberg is based on a true story about Elizabeth McCourt who married Harvey Doe and moved from Wisconsin to Colorado with her husband where he was going to manage his father's goldmine. Since he was lazy and did not want to work, Elizabeth disguised herself as a man and went to work in the goldmine. She did this so that she could send money home to her family that had lost everything in a fire. The other workers gave her the nickname Baby Doe because of small size and her beauty. When she found her husband that left her going into a whorehouse, she divorced him. This was not an acceptable action in the 1800s and she became a social pariah, would not take him back and her parents disowned her. She had remarkable guts for standing her ground. Very good review.

Baby doe as portrayed in this story is very strong willed because back then women could do anything to avoid divorce even if they were in pain but here is not the case.
Congratulations botd

I am happy to own a copy of this book. I do not know Baby Doe from Eve, but the review convinced me she is a woman I need to meet and learn from. Defying societal norms is no mean feat. Not then and not now. This woman was no baby!

She was nicknamed Baby Doe, but there's nothing childish about the way she handled her marriage situation.
This sounds like a very insightful book. I commend your enlightening review and congrats to the author.

Interesting story and intriguing structures, I find it appealing to see how events change and develop with time moving on. The aid of helpful tips author left for readers "with the location, month and year that the action takes place" at the beginning of each chapter, makes it easier to navigate and understand the process. Thanks a lot and congrats with BOTD!

Gold Digger is a non-fiction tale of a strong and resilient woman who against all odds turned hopelessness into hope and failure into success. She was ahead of her time and was a trail blazer for women. Excellent read for women fighting for women's rights. I appreciate your review.

Today's BOTD is a well-written and researched historical fiction novel that follows a strong, courageous woman of the 1800s who fought for her own rights and financial security after being abandoned by her husband and left to fend for herself. Having never heard of Baby Doe before, I'm excited to learn more! Thank you so much for your awesome review!
