Baby Doe has shown a rare courage and conviction over her viewpoints. It is not easy to go against popular practices and ideologies. So, I am quite impressed with how she vehemently challenges some male anomalies in the 18th century by defending her human dignity and demanding that her cheating husband respect same.

Women might find this story encouraging. She embodies the kind of power and independence that I wish all women had. I hope that other women will find inspiration in it as well. Wonderful review

I had a different view of what gold digger meant until I came across this book. I appreciate Baby Doe for taking her stance despite what society says. Today's BOTD is a good one for me. Congratulations!!!

I admire Baby Doe's strength, imagine if she had relented and waited on her husband, just like the society expected of her. I imagine she would have gone through worse.

Elizabeth McCourt aka Baby Doe's story seems like an inspirational read. It will be interesting to see how the author depicted that time period in this book as well. Congrats on BOTD.

Baby Doe sounds like an amazing woman in an era where women were dealt much less. She sounds brave, courageous and kindhearted. I love historical fictions. This would be a feast for me to devour it seems. Congrats on BOTD!

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting historical fiction story about a married woman that must don men’s clothing and work in a mine to make money to send back to her parents as her husband does not want to work. When her husband leaves her when she is pregnant, how will she be able to survive? It might be worth a second look. Well done.

I enjoy it when authors roll the dice and decide to write books about topics that are hardly known but critical to our sense of history. This is one of those books. Congrats to the author for bringing this story to life, depicting the hardships of mining in the 1800s, but more importantly, portraying the life of a strong-willed woman during a time of antiquated ideas.

The story of Baby Doe is impressive and fascinating. She is trully a legend. She fought for her own rights and then fell in love with married man? Anyway, I'm a bit picky about historical-fiction, but this one appeals to me. Thank you for a wonderful review.

This is an exceptional review, this is my first time hearing the name Baby Doe, and I would that any sane person would do the same thing Elizabeth McCourt did. She is a compassionate and selfless character that put her family first before herself, she also is a strong woman who commands equality and respects even in a time when women had no equal rights as men. Great review!

This is perfect for me! I love 1800s history and books that have a true story but are fictionalized as novels. I haven't heard this legend before and I'm really excited to read it. It sounds so much like Erik Larson, and I love his books.

I am not a big fan of historical fiction. The BOTD seeks to inspire women to be strong and self-sufficient. Nice review, but not really one for me.

Baby Doe showed courage in her life. Even when all didn't seem well, she still stood by what she believed. She was a feminist in her time and is a source of inspiration to many women today.
