When the grandfather's clock strikes the hour of miracles and magic every night, the tiny acrobats, magicians, fire eaters, clowns, and jesters emerge through a little door. Tonight, however, is not like the other nights. Spot, Sugarcandy's friend, informs him that the wind maidens have chosen their land to weave their magic. This rarely happens. They decide to attend the event. They believe they might never get the chance to witness this again. When they get there, they find the ceremony in progress. However, something unusual happens a few minutes into the ceremony. The wind maidens cannot finish weaving their magic. Whoever caused such a thing to happen is not known. Sugarcandy and Spot go on a mission to solve the mystery. The White Harlequin by Daphne Tzamali Yakinthou details this thrilling adventure.

When I began reading this book, I questioned whether it was meant for kids. A few pages into the book, I realized what a beautiful story it was. The scenes were introduced and described beautifully. The author paid attention to the decorations in the room. It was easy to picture this story as a fairy tale. The plot was well organized and developed. The characters were all enthusiastic, giving radiance to the story.

The colored illustrations in this book back up the descriptions the author used. They were also sparingly used. This gave me a chance to create my imaginary world. Besides using the narrative technique and illustrations to tell this story, the author also included characters who used songs to communicate. This aspect made the story livelier and more engaging. This book is full of suspense. I did not expect the ending. It summed the story well and still solved the book's mystery.

Despite having a trail of positive aspects, I encountered one negative aspect. The author addressed the characters in this book with different names severally. I recommend using one for each character. Doing this will make it easier to follow the book's plot. This aspect did not, however, affect my reading of the book. I rate The White Harlequin by Daphne Tzamali Yakinthou 5 out of 5 stars. The book was professionally edited. The White Harlequin addressed different themes, including friendship, perseverance, and courage.

I recommend this book to children between 10 to 12 years. This book contains many educative lessons. Parents and readers who love fairy tales will also enjoy this book. This book depicts a new world of fairy tales that anyone fascinated by them will love to explore.
