Desolation Run A Road Raptors MC Novel No.1 is a crime fiction novel by Larry Lovan that centres around the outlaw bike clubs in the United States of America. Larry is described as someone who spent most of his life working in corporate America. But he has always known that he loves writing. That’s why he quit and started focusing more on his love and passion. This book is that one product from that career switch. It’s about two people from different worlds who fall in love with each other, and now one has to learn to adapt and fit in the other’s strange world. It is thrilling and good.

Rebecca is an aspiring actress. It is hard to break into Hollywood. She has burnt many bridges to follow this dream of hers. She is no longer in contact with her father, who is very religious and who won’t tolerate anyone who doesn’t follow in his footsteps. Rebecca is working at a diner while she is filling out applications for roles in both television and theatres on the side. The diner she works at is frequented by outlaw bike clubs. Rebecca’s agent is trying to convince her to do porn to get exposure. Trouble ensues, and one biker from the diner stands up for Rebecca and throws the agent out.

That biker’s name is Johnny. Johnny is the president of Road Raptors Motorcycle Club. His club is fairly new, so it is not that famous. He accompanies Rebecca to the hospital to get her hand fixed after punching her agent. That’s when the chemistry between them is established and grows. Jonny is now spending a lot of time with Rebecca. He feels close to her that he invites her to one of their famous weekend runs.

This is where troubles start. A member of Johnny’s club feels robbed by Johnny. Not only that, but he is also jealous of Johnny for always getting fine girls. And there is another woman who is jealous of Rebecca for getting the president of the club when she is just new in this world of bikes. They run into rival clubs, and murder is planned. Loyalty is tested when betrayal is everywhere. Who is guilty, and who’s innocent? Who’ll come out alive?

Answers to these questions are in between the covers of this book. When I picked this book, I thought I should try something new. I have read a handful of books about bike clubs, and I found this culture fascinating. This book promised a different premise from the description. I was impressed by a lot of aspects and only let down by a few of them. One thing that impressed me was the plot. It was executed perfectly. The plot not only was about the cliché power struggle in a still budding bike club, but it was also about the culture as a whole. The book had many pieces of subplots that made the book interesting and urged me to read on to find out what would happen next.

The world of bikers was magnificently painted, and I could feel myself living right in it. This was done by the amazing descriptions in the narration. The description didn’t give out too much, but rather just enough to paint an image in my head and let the imagination do the rest. The dialogue brought the characters to life. This enabled me to make up my mind about the mindsets of the characters before the narration could tell me. The bikers were patriarchal misogynists who thought less of women. They referred to them as property and other demeaning words. What was shocking was the women themselves took pride in this. But I understood it all. This was how the outlaw bike club behaved, and the dialogue shone the light on that.

The characterisation was something I loved because all characters had substance, and they each played a perfect role. From Sheva to Elwood. The backstories were provided in a convincing fashion that enabled me to understand their actions because I now knew where they came from. What I didn’t like was the switch of points of view. This took away the suspense because I knew what the characters from the other side were planning. If the book only focused on the point of view of Rebecca and Johnny, the sense of mystery would have been preserved.

The book was exceptionally edited because I came across a few errors that didn’t take away the quality of the book. That’s why I think it is fair to rate this book four out of five stars. It contains strong, vulgar language, so I recommend it to mature adults. The conclusion wrapped up everything nicely and left enough room for the continuation of the next book.

I've read a few books like this with similar themes, so it does sound interesting to me and the vulgar language goes with the territory I think.
