Review of Tree of Redemption
Tree of Redemption by Jim Davidson is an interesting murder story that centers around the small towns of Laredo and Brownsville. Chris and Michael are the focal points of plot development, as well as other characters.
Chris returns to Laredo from Virginia to pay his last respect to his friend, surrogate father, and mentor, Armando Chico Guerra, whose unknown age-long enemy has just been murdered. Chris, who doesn't seem like one who would take delight in embarking on a revenge mission, is bent on unearthing the killer of his dear friend. What will he do if he discovers that the killer is a despicable and erratic being who no one can overpower? But there could be repercussions possibly waiting for him at the end of the tunnel. Readers will find out.
Davidson has woven a beautiful piece for you to savor. I relished the simple and easy language the author uses to reel out the plot of his story, which began from the middle and then back to the beginning of things. I must applaud the structural arrangement and strategic placement of suspense, especially when Villatoro Sacarras, who is also known as El Loco Diablo, approaches Michael in Brownsville for the purchase of some Aztecan antiquities. I savored every use of the Mexican dialect used in the book. It helped to enrich the setting and made it easier to relate with.
The author lays great emphasis on the importance of building and maintaining a strong and reliable relationship with people. I believe that even with all the money and wealth one might have, one is truly not rich without a firm and reliable relationship with people. Hence, money is not the only yardstick to measure riches. I discovered that when a relationship is wisely maintained, it would yield great dividends in the future. This can be seen in the case of Chris Hamilton. He wouldn't have recorded much success if not for the people his father knew, which included Herman, Garcia, Speedy, and others. In other words, your goals cannot be singlehandedly achieved without the help of men (used generically).
I disliked nothing about the book. The author spoke in convincing and plain terms for any reader to understand the storyline and the various themes it highlighted. I found no errors in the review. I'm certain the book was exceptionally well-edited. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to lovers of murder and crime stories.
