Review of Dear Abigail
In Dear Abigail: A Letter to a Little Granddaughter by Richard Rees, he writes a letter to his granddaughter, Abigail, telling her of their family background and where she was originally from. In the letter, he also talks about his daughter, who was Abigail's mother, among other things. Abigail was only 3 years old when the letter was written, so Rees agreed with Abigail's father to keep the letter until she was old enough to read it. The author shares his story, that of his family, his struggles, and the pain he had to live with. Would you like to know the full content of the letter to Abigail? Do you want to know why it was specifically for her and why it was important? Then read this book.
While reading this book about the letter to Abigail, I was filled with emotions as I had to imagine what Richard Rees had to endure and still try to live his life the best way he could. Reading this book has made me appreciate every moment I share with the ones I love. It has also given me every reason to be grateful for each day. I decided to try out this book because of how the name captivated me, and when I read it, I was emotional because of its content.
I loved the relationship between Abigail and her granddad, or "Gaga," as she would call him. Even though she was still very young and tender, they shared a lovely bond and missed each other even when they were only a few moments apart. I also loved the part where Cary fought to stay strong for the three people she loved. Despite the distance between Abigail and her grandfather, she always looked for a way to get in touch with him even though she was restricted, and this is one thing I adored.
What I did not like about this book was how Meryn distanced herself from Richard Rees, despite the love that they had for each other. I was expecting her to be his support and always be there for him when he needed her the most. Though the author's means of communication did not flow in every part of this book, I still felt his pain and agony and understood the message he passed across. While reading, I discovered a few errors in this book, but that did not stop me from enjoying it. Because of how much I loved this book, I give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this book to those who love a good memoir and those who would love to see the love of a father for his daughter, as they will not be disappointed reading this book.
