Review of Purpose
If you have a dream, vision or desire to make a change, Gina Bianchini has written out a clear guide for you to follow to make it a reality. In her book PURPOSE: Design a Community & Change Your Life A Step-By-Step Guide to Finding Your Purpose and Making It Matter, she outlines exactly how to take an idea, draw in like minded individuals, and act on the plan. Using practical advice and concrete steps, this book will allow the reader to organize ideas both big and small into community projects, fundraisers, or small businesses.
PURPOSE is a versatile plan that can be used for any type of undertaking that the reader has envisioned. The idea is to change your mindset and build a framework that adjusts perfectly to the size of the task at hand. Ms. Bianchini’s plan is adaptable for a small short term service project or a new daycare center for the community. This book is useful in so many situations for anyone who needs to gather and lead a group toward a common goal. The principles laid out are logical and applicable in multiple situations.
The premise is that one must have a clear description of their purpose or an idea of the need of the community in question. Once this is defined, reasons must be clearly established. In this way, millions of tight-knit groups of people who create together, learn together, collaborate together and can work even better together. This is a clear intention for a process that will grow over time, by combining talents, contributions and advances in more than a single day. Creators can take ownership of their own content. They can design their own culture, experiences, and relationships. All this will allow hosts to form their own communities with the freedom to do things like have paid communities, charge for events, reward early adopters, change habits, get results and transform the community.
While I found the methods explained in the book very practical, I felt it took awhile to actually get to the “meat” of the book. It seemed like there was a lot of history, preliminary convincing and explaining that was going on before the reader actually began to learn the “how-to’s” of the “Step-By-Step Guide…” I was intrigued and chomping at the bit to get to the lessons. I wanted the teaching to begin sooner than it actually did.
I enjoyed reading this book. The style was conversational, like a friend giving advice. I thought it was helpful. I liked that the strategies could be used in a variety of situations. It was not narrow advice that would only apply in one circumstance. It fits into many applications. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. Although I felt there was a lot of extra discussion about what was going to be taught and preparing the reader for what was coming instead of just giving the information directly, the book was informative and kept me interested. The book was very well written and was free from errors.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has a task to accomplish or a group of people to lead. Many individuals have unrealized dreams and goals, but never see them through because they just do not know where to start. Gina Bianchini offers everyone a starting place. She has the beginning laid out with a Purpose 30 introduction and moving to answering 6 Purpose questions. Then you are off, writing your Future Story. With reading PURPOSE you can change your life!
