E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is a book about what could happen to America if a hostile group or nation decides to attack it with an electromagnetic pulse. Kelly and Tom are on their honeymoon in Honduras when they meet another couple, Sue and Steve. Their vacation gets interrupted by a North Korean plan to invade North America. Will Kelly and Tom work together with different people to stop the plan before it devastates the United States?

What I liked the most about the story is that it’s a unique and interesting take on a nightmarish scenario. The premise may be ludicrous considering the fact that many countries constantly monitor ships and their contents, the resources needed to conduct such an operation, and the risk of getting caught, but it’s based on reality since there are lapses in the system. Also, a South American nation is the last place you’d expect North Korea to use as a staging ground for an invasion. The Space Force is also given focus and its actions in the story are based on speculations about the unit and its mission.

The other aspects I liked about the story are the well-written characters and their importance to the story. Kelly and Tom’s romantic moments were sweet. Sue and Steve’s interactions were also good. Other characters like Cynthia were also given focus, given their involvement in the mission. North Korean characters like General Lee and the Dear Leader provided a glimpse into what North Korea is, its plans, and how the Dear Leader rules.

The twist was unexpected since the story makes you believe that the American teams will save North America from an electromagnetic pulse attack. The story has moments that foreshadowed later events like the date between Sue and Steve and the Dear Leader’s interactions with his underlings. The epilogue also gave the readers a concise look at what happened to the characters at the end.

There are no negative aspects about this book. It has all the elements of a good thriller: good character interactions, an entertaining take on a possible scenario, an interesting twist, and a satisfying ending. The book is also exceptionally well edited. I saw no errors throughout the book. I give this book five out of five stars.

This book is recommended for people who love reading thrillers. Readers who love military fiction will definitely love it. I also recommend this book to people who want a book with sweet romantic interactions.
