After The Eclipse by Erin McBride is a deeply emotional story about loss, pain, and a healing journey.

The story centers on the lives of two brothers: Jacob and Eric. A tragic event brings Laura into Eric's life. This event leads him to his bucket list, which he desires to do anything to accomplish. However, it will bring him to the edge of safety, help him talk to Alex Singer (the girl he's crushing on), and rearrange his view on life and how he deals with it. Eric will need the help of his friend, Gil, Laura, and his family to figure out how to spend his time and change his outlook on life.

One thing I liked about this book was how the author presented the romance between Alex and Eric. It didn't follow the regular romantic plotline in most other books. There was a heavy dose of reality that would be common in the real world. The author's deviation from the typical pattern reminded me that things would not usually go as expected, and I liked that reminder.

The strong bond of brotherhood was a huge lesson the author taught in this book. From the first chapter, the author took the time to build and deepen the relationship between the two brothers; he showed their bond in several ways. And when tragedy struck, I was shaken, and the tension got to me. Because of the original groundwork done by the author, it was easy not just to feel sympathy for the characters but also to go through the rollercoaster of emotions with them. It helped me enjoy the story even more.

Another thing I enjoyed was how a minor character, Chuck, became relevant to the storyline. He might have been a side character, but I couldn't wait to read the parts he featured. I liked how the author fleshed out his character without compromising his position as a side character.

The descriptions of people and places also deserved praise — they were fantastic. From the first sentence in the first chapter, the author painted a picture and gave life to a fantastic plot.

After The Eclipse is a well-written book that takes readers on a gut-wrenching ride through the darkness into the light. There's nothing to dislike in this book, and it is professionally edited. Therefore, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy narratives around romance, grief, and healing.
