Which do you choose, the bad option or the terrible one? This seems to be the constant choice Kim is left with as she faces life in the crime-ridden slums of District 33. After she refused to make more AIs to be used for evil, Kim has been exiled to the harshest of the outer districts, where it is a struggle to survive. Every step she takes seems to risk her life or that of someone she cares about.

Kim isn't prepared to go down without a fight and builds a life for herself in her new community. She rapidly adapts to get in with Len, the manager of the pedicabs. While it is dangerous work, with the income from pedicab driving, Kim can provide for herself. She isn't prepared to settle just for her new life, however. Kim is determined to see justice for the AI she created. She does everything she can to try and save her AI, Kimberly, even when it seems like Kimberly is hellbent on thwarting everything Kim tries to do. This means getting to the heart of the system and understanding how artificial intelligence truly works so Kim can use it to her advantage and bring justice to the AIs.

Craig W. Stanfill's The Prophecy of the Heron is a thrilling sequel to his first book in the series, Terms of Service. He has improved on his first novel and delivered a fast-paced and enjoyable read. The book covers not just the further adventures of Kim and Shan but also delves further into the world they live in and how it works.

The book is easy to read, well edited, and further builds on the characters we saw in the first book, as well as introducing a few new ones. Kim's character development as the book goes on is great, and it is easy to relate to her as a character. Once I started reading it, it was hard to stop. I didn't find anything I disliked about the book.

Overall, I rate The Prophecy of the Heron 5 out of 5 stars. It is a fast-paced, enjoyable read. I see Stanfill is planning to write more books about this world, and I look forward to reading them.

I recommend this book and its predecessor, Terms of Service, to anyone who enjoys science fiction, particularly those with an interest in artificial intelligence.

I like that the prophecy of Heron sounds more interesting and intriguing than it's predecessor.

I really enjoyed them both but I do think it was a step up from the first one.

I’m glad to hear that Mr. Stanfill is planning to continue this. I really enjoyed “Terms of Service” and I am reading this one now. I really like the potential for AI, but I also understand how it can be misused.

I also enjoyed reading this book. I like your question about Kim only having to choose between bad and terrible because everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong for her. Thank you for your wonderful review!

Your review was very descriptive and well-written. I have both these books on my "To read" list. Hopefully, I get to it soon. 😊
