London Heat by Robert Lancaster is a fast-paced crime thriller focusing on Tom and his unfortunate entanglement with a crime family.

One night, Tom Sanders, an ex-Royal Marine, awoke in his truck to the sound of gunshots in a lay-by. He discovered that he had stumbled into a cocaine deal gone awry in which both sides were killed after the shooting was over. Tom combed the vehicles on the scene, and he found guns, fifty kilos of pure cocaine, and two million pounds. He took it all. The head of the Rawlings crime family and the owner of the drugs and money, Frankie Rawlings, along with Benjamin Meyer, his right-hand man, were hell-bent on tracking down Tom and the drugs. However, Detective Lewis Baugh, who was a member of the team in charge of the bodies in the lay-by case, discovered that there was more to the investigation than first appeared.

This was a wonderful book. It was quite insightful. I learned how undercover agents operate and how they carry out investigations. I also gained a lot of knowledge about how the military works. I liked the part where the author discussed Tom's experience with the Royal Marines, especially when his team infiltrated a Taliban-held territory. They were gathering intel that would be used against them.

Detective Inspector Lewis Baugh was my favorite character. He was intelligent and trusted his gut. His bravery and desire for his work were admirable. I admired the way he managed the agents working for him. I also liked Tom. His agility, quick thinking, and military training really helped him through some messy situations. However, I felt Tom was greedy for taking the drugs and the cash. His human nature overcame him. The character I liked the least was Anton Nowakowski. I do not understand why a normal person would choose to go years without taking a bath. His criminal lifestyle and desire to instill fear in others were repulsive.

The author did an amazing job. He gave vivid descriptions that made me imagine the scenes easily. The plot flowed easily, and the characters were well-developed. It was also obvious that the author carried out research on police and military operations; he did a good job. This book merits a rating of 5 out of 5 stars for everything listed above. There was nothing to dislike. It was also professionally edited, as I found some errors.

I recommend this book to lovers of crime thrillers. Also, this book contained vivid descriptions of some gory scenes. So I do not recommend it to readers who cannot handle some horrific scenes.

I enjoyed reading this review. I usually don't like books about drugs and drug-dealers as their stories often include a lot of violence and deaths. The world of drug dealing is a selfish one. However this seems like a well-written, well-informed book. The plot is fascinating as it gives an insight on the way police investigations work and on the army. I will add this book to my shelves.
