A Celtic princess named Catrin is obligated by duty to serve and defend her people. She takes this responsibility seriously and makes every effort to keep her people safe, even if that means defying the king's commands to avoid magic that could bring about her destruction. When she falls deeply in love with one of her enemies, everything changes, and Catrin may now have to decide between doing her duty and following her heart.

Apollo's Raven is a historical romantic fantasy, and as a huge fan of fantasy, I appreciate how well this one was written. The book is fast-paced, which made it very hard to put down, and I love how Linnea Tanner clearly showed us each character's point of view, even though Catrin is the main character.

There is nothing I hate about this book, but I am emotional, and the emotion I felt most while reading this book was anger. I was upset with Catrin because, although she was aware that Marcellus was from a hostile land and would pose a threat, she did not at least make an effort to establish a resistance to her love for him. I was angry with Trystan for ignoring the king's orders and tempting the queen, and most especially, I was mad at everyone for treating Vala like she was worthless. My heart broke because they made decisions that would have endangered her safe release without even considering the consequences.

Another strong emotion I felt while reading this book was shock. I was so shocked at the depth of Marrock's evil. At first, I thought the morbid scene he was forced to witness as a child was enough to make any saint a villain, but further reading caused me to change my mind; he really had no excuse for what he did. Fortunately, it was not all gloom and doom. I was pleased to see Catrin learn more about her powers and have more control over them. I was also relieved to confirm that her love for Marcellus was requited.

I found only one error in the book, so I believe it was edited professionally. The character development was top-tier, and it is an excellent beginning to a series with just the perfect amount of suspense. I rate this book Five out of Five stars because of the reasons mentioned above. I recommend it to lovers of historical fiction, romance, and people who love action.

I enjoyed reading this book, the princess shows, the leaders of people are to act out of service to the people and not for their own selfish interests. It's nice.
