Matthew Tysz's novel, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, captivates readers with its intriguing narrative. This work of fiction delves into a multitude of compelling themes, including war, mystery, magic, science, friendship, betrayal, fear, and power. The story unfolds within a grand kingdom teeming with untapped potential, shedding light on the relentless human pursuit of power and wealth. Furthermore, it addresses pressing societal concerns such as security, fear, famine, inflation, and terrorism. Through its narrative, the novel exposes the inherent blindness of humans when confronted with the allure of power. It serves as a reminder that human desires are insatiable, and many are willing to go to any lengths to acquire power.

Lord Orlin, the former ruler of Hillport, is accused and overthrown by Meldorath, a former general and a friend of King Wilhelm. Meanwhile, in a distant land, four princes engage in a deadly war. Galen Bray, a young man, manages to escape the war-ravaged land of the four princes and arrives in Magnum Caelum in Voulhire via sea. Galen's deceased great-uncle left behind a forge containing documents and instructions, and Galen's mission is to be found as per his uncle's dying wish. Galen is welcomed by the town's mayor, Malcolm, and his grand-uncle's executor, Rowan, who becomes a friend and guides Galen in familiarizing himself with the ways of Voulhire, with the ultimate goal of resurrecting his uncle's business. Through his journey, Galen discovers the hidden complexities and struggles underlying the seemingly beautiful land and structure of Voulhire.

The author's writing style is both admirable and unique, captivating readers with its suspenseful nature. His ability to vividly portray magical encounters and make them understandable is truly commendable. The book's display of magical powers and overall creativity is mind-stirring, leaving me in awe of how it was masterfully crafted. The inclusion of a map at the beginning and a reference guide at the end enhances the reader's visualization of the story. The author's exceptional organization of the narrative sequence adds to its amazing quality. There are valuable lessons to be learned and profound insights to be gained from the culture and laws of Voulhire, making the book even more engrossing. It offers a deeper understanding of one's adversaries and the motivations behind their actions.

I disliked nothing about this book, as it held my attention with its captivating story. It offered valuable lessons throughout the journey. I particularly enjoyed the writer's skill in developing the characters and immersing the reader in the narrative. Additionally, the book delves into the perils faced by leaders, underscoring the significance of being cautious of potential dangers. It powerfully illustrates that leaders sometimes possess fears that may not align with the genuine threats they should be cautious of. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.

I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars due to its remarkable ability to engage me through its captivating story, valuable life lessons, compelling character development, engaging writing style, thought-provoking themes, and immersive world-building. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to readers who delight in captivating fantasy novels enriched with intricate world-building, well-developed characters, and themes that provoke deep contemplation. Furthermore, individuals who appreciate narratives that delve into the challenges and perils faced by leaders will find this book particularly enthralling.
