Secrets of the Kashmir Valley by Farhana Qazi is an outstanding book based on true events. The author wrote this book to create awareness around the world about the hardship, violence, nightmare, and suffering the Kashmiris are facing in their land. The author traveled to Kashmir to capture the stories of the Kashmiris, thereby giving them a voice through her writing.

Over seven decades the valley of Kashmir has been turned into a battleground between India and Pakistan. This has severely affected the lives of the Kashmiris, especially women. The author interviewed some women, and she compiled their stories in this eye-opening book. The author finds out how the women in Kashmir have been affected by the war and their contribution to the fight for independence in Kashmir.

I really appreciated the history incorporated in this book. This makes the reader understand the origin of the war in Kashmir. This taught me a lot that I didn't previously know. The interviews conducted by the author showed what women are capable of. The women activists in Kashmir are going against all odds to fight for their independence.

The author also touches on major issues that the women of Kashmir are facing, like rape and torture. This made me sympathize with the women of Kashmir. The author showed the emotions that the Kashmiris have toward their oppressors in her writing. This filled the book with a lot of emotions, which makes the book a page-turner. The author also shows that violence is not the solution to everything. This is evident by the nonviolent path that the activists in Kashmir have taken to fight for their independence.

The book had no negative aspects in my opinion. That is why I rate this book five out of five. The book was professionally edited. I recommend this book to any reader who wants to find out what is really going on in Kashmir. I also recommend it to women because I think that it would empower them. The book is also suited for readers who love history.
