Review of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is a book written by R. F. Kristi that follows a family of furry friends who run a detective agency led by Inca. After returning from a recent trip to Sri Lanka, they are getting ready for another adventure, this time to South Korea. Missy, their human mom, who is a talented chef, receives an invitation from a prestigious French cookery school. They want her to be an international judge at a competition that involves both South Korea and North Korea. Missy sees this as a chance to showcase her new cheese creation. However, their excitement takes a pause when they face jealousy from a famous chef and rival. This chef tries to sabotage Missy's presentation and tarnish her reputation. Despite facing obstacles in the first trial, the rival, named Enzo, doesn't give up and makes another attempt to ruin Missy's chances. Meanwhile, while they are in Seoul, the detective agency takes on a risky mission to help their new friend Baram. They want to bring Baram's dear partner from North Korea to South Korea for a joyful reunion. The question is, will they succeed in this challenging mission?
One of the best things about the book is how brave and smart Inca is. Inca and her friends show off their agility and enthusiasm as they solve different challenges. When Missy's cheese disappears after arriving in Korea, Inca and her team take it upon themselves to uncover the mystery behind the missing cheese. The suspense in the story kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could imagine how worried Missy must have been about her cheese.
Along with the cheese mystery, Inca and her team come across a situation where two siblings are separated on their way to a competition. Inca and her friends make sure that the siblings find each other again, which is a powerful symbol of resolving conflicts between South Korea and North Korea. This part of the book adds a realistic and culturally significant element to the story, making it not just fun to read but also educational. Ye-jun's hospitality towards the traveling crew as a tour guide was really admirable, and it made me wish I could join them on the trip. The characters in the book are well-developed, and the story is really engaging, making it a perfect choice for kids as young as five.
The book was professionally edited, which made it easy to read and understand. However, there were some words used in the book that might be a bit difficult for children to comprehend. It would have been helpful to have a list of these words and their meanings included in the book. Aside from this, I found nothing to dislike about this book. I found a few errors in this book.
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is an exceptional children's book that is both entertaining and educational. The characters, plot, and editing are all really well done, making it a great pick for kids who love adventure and mysteries. That's why I highly recommend it for children aged five and above. I give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of its overall quality and how enjoyable it is.
