Review of How to Work with (Almost) Anyone
How to Work with (Almost) Anyone by Michael Bungay Stanier is a guidebook on building the best possible relationships. The book centers on communication as one way to build these relationships. The author introduces his readers to the keystone conversation. He continues with the five questions of the keystone conversation that will help prompt readers’ thinking.
The questions include the amplify question, the steady question, the good date question, the bad date question, and the repair question. Each question is tackled in detail, showing how it impacts a relationship. Also, the author gives tips on having a keystone conversation and maintaining the best possible relationship. Ultimately, he warns that there will be difficulties in building a relationship, but the commitment and capacity to fix the damage are the most important things.
The book, in general, was an amazing piece of advice on building the best possible relationships. I loved how Stanier perfectly elaborated his points so no reader would be confused. Plus, topics are organized into subtopics. Another likable thing in the book is the author’s friendly approach to his explanation. At some points, he metaphorically related other events to topics in the book to break it down to readers in a friendly way so they would understand the book. For example, he relates the fire in the Australian bush to moments when the best possible relationship is threatened.
Furthermore, the book has exercises to help fully put the book’s teachings into action. There are also QR codes and links where readers can get further guidance on different topics. Plus, this is the most genuine book teaching about building relationships, as the author plainly explained that the relationship might fail to work, and we should also be ready to accept the role we played in its failure.
I didn’t encounter anything to dislike in the book. It was full of valuable lessons and professionally edited. Therefore, I will rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend the book to people who have problems relating to others or want to perfect their relationships.
