Review of Guidance From A Bachelor
This book is both a dating self-improvement book for men and a personal memoir of the author. The author gives men strategies for dating life in college and in their young professional years. The author, named Troy, gives dating examples from his life. He gives a detailed guide to initiating conversations with women in nightclubs. There are examples of how to start up a relationship with an office colleague. The book also contains tips on personal maintenance and self-improvement tips to become a better person.
Guidance From A Bachelor is written by Troy Cannon. It breaks down how to approach women during social situations into easy-to-understand steps. This is helpful for men who lack confidence. I like that the book acknowledged a man should have hobbies and interests that can be discussed and shared. The book also emphasizes taking the time for self-improvement and career development before dating seriously.
This book is not professionally edited. I identified several typographical errors. The slang and vulgar language used throughout makes the book a tough read. I found the author’s tone and writing style to be self-involved and pompous. This book contains a lot of stereotypical, masochistic, male behavior. It was not an enjoyable read. The descriptions of picking up women come across as bragging. Admittedly, as a female, I am not the target audience.
I rate this book two out of five stars. The book does give some solid advice on how to approach women. The typographical errors, arrogant tone of voice, and overuse of slang, all detracted from my enjoyment. The author spends too much time detailing his conquests. More time should have been spent on practical dating advice for the readers.
I do not recommend reading this book. The intended audience is males between the ages of 18 and 30, who want more confidence in the dating scene. There are some graphically detailed sexual scenes, use of alcohol, and profanity.
