Running with the President by August Martin is a captivating political romance novel. When I first read this book’s title, I thought it was only related to elections and not in the literal sense (imagine that), but then I thought I should give it a chance. It was a wise decision, and I pat myself on the back. This book did a fantastic job of making me feel captivated, excited, and thrilled while reading. It is 518 pages long. Before the number puts a pause on the excitement, let me tell you: it is worth every page. I even wish it could have a few more pages of story. It was akin to watching a good political romance series with danger looming in the background. It was unputdownable.

The story follows Lance Dumont, a presidential candidate who travels to many places to campaign for the elections. In the first few chapters, we get a glimpse into his character, his personality, and his past. He is an ambitious, promising candidate who will fulfill what he promises. And to keep a promise, he goes so far as to deliver a speech on a day with chilly weather.

Doris Machado works as a nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital. She was living a mundane life until the day she went to help victims of a recent tragic event. At this rescue spot, fate brings her to rescue a victim who might have died if not for her. Doris takes care of him and sees to it that he is safe. But she learns something that might put her life at risk. What does she know?

The author has written a well-crafted, vividly woven tale. The book has a fascinating and thrilling plot. I loved the character of Doris; she did some brave stuff and some silly stuff. I liked all the conversations in the book; they were awkward, relatable, and lively. The fact that the author included the entire Dumont family in the story is admirable, as family does not get to play an important role in some novels. I admire Rose’s handling of the situation once she recovered from the shock.

Another plus is that the plot is without loopholes, and the main story is well-balanced and evenly paced, which will keep you turning pages. It has some explicit sexual content that is just right—not too much or too little. The end leaves you contemplating what you just witnessed; it has equal parts sweet, bitter, and sad emotions.

It deserves a perfect five out of five stars for its wholesome, riveting story. I had a great time reading it. A professional skillfully edited it, and I only found a few minor errors. There is nothing I disliked in the novel. I highly recommend it to fans of political romance books with a well-developed storyline.

Thank you for commenting Omeya!
It's a nice book indeed. That's true, I tend to notice the minor stuff and probably overlook the major parts when I'm too caught up in the minute. But that shows the impressive writing style's attributes.

We shared the same thoughts on the book's title, that's for sure. Your claim that the book is 'unputdownable' makes me want to pick it up. Buttttt, it's wayyy too long. I'm going to be so demotivated at some point. If it's as good as you say, I may not lack the motivation to continue though. Nice review!

I haven't read yet political romance. This book sounds worth trying despite its length. Could it be the President who was rescued by Doris? Your review made me intrigued, Kavita? Thanks for this incredible writing!

I was interested to note that the balance of explicit content is just right, because it can often seem gratuitous in romance stories - as if they feel compelled to include the steamy content to appeal to their target market. Thank you for your interesting review.

One of the book's strengths lies in its ability to shed light on the inner workings of political campaigns and the complexities faced by candidates. The narrative exposes the dark underbelly of the political arena, exposing the compromises, ethical dilemmas, and power struggles that often overshadow genuine intentions.
