Half Moon Lake by Steve Brock is an interesting story about Tony Williams, the protagonist, who is framed for a crime by a man who has held a grudge against him for years. Tony Williams, who is also referred to as Crease Williams because of his skill as a wide receiver, lost his parents after his big game, which made the NFL scout interested in him. Tragedy struck, and Crease Williams left Texas. Years later, he is at Half Moon Lake, flying float plans. After the disappearance of four campers that he brought to Roudy’s Cabin, trouble comes knocking. Being the last person to have seen them, his teammate Bevee, who held a grudge against him from when they were playing football, is determined to punish him for taking the NFL opportunity from him, and as a special agent in charge for the FBI, he had the perfect opportunity.

This was a very engaging book. The use of suspense was well engaged in this book; waiting to know what really happened to the campers was a long wait for me, and not being able to tell if they were dead or alive was another thing that kept me in suspense. I love flying, so reading about different kinds of planes excited me. I also liked that the main characters were all well-developed. The character that impressed me the most was Sheriff Mo. The inclusion of teamwork was also something to admire in this book; despite the other characters not knowing Crease personally, they were also happy to work together despite the risk involved.

The only downside to this book is the many background stories. It looked like the volume of the book wasn’t large enough for the author, so he decided to add something that I felt the book would have done. One such is the background story of Deputy Hannigan; he wasn’t the main character, but there was a background story about him that I wasn’t interested in; there was no need for it, and others like that. Aside from this, there wasn’t anything else that I wasn’t interested in.

I liked how the author engaged human emotions. In Bevee, I saw anger and unforgiveness; he was also quite a determined character. His determination was also seen in other characters; they were all determined about something. The book was well written and perfectly edited, as I did not come across any errors in it. My rating for this book is 5 out of 5 stars. The background stories I mentioned earlier did not affect my interest in the book and therefore were not enough reason for me to deduct a star from this book.

I would recommend this book to lovers of crime thrillers; they will love reading it. It will also interest people who love reading investigative books; they will enjoy the journey to prove Crease's innocence and find the real culprit. People who like planes will also enjoy reading this book.

Layered story with various sub-stories, that sounds interesting. Would love to read this book in upcoming future. Although I have no idea about flying and planes, as mentioned in the review about the book, but would certainly give it a shot to see if I enjoy reading it and many more similar stories

Despite the digressions about some characters' backstories, this seems like an engaging thriller. Crease Williams is often at the center of tragic events, even the target of a frame-job! Thank you for your great review!
