The pandemic once hit worldwide, leaving people isolated, disconnected, and lonely. And some people are still struggling with these negative effects. By reading You Can Talk To Anyone by Ellen Dawson, one can build social connections again and break out of isolation. Ellen reminded readers of the importance of socialization and how it will keep us away from depression and social anxiety. By cultivating effective communication and rapport, one can achieve deep connections and great friendships.

The author emphasizes the importance of technology in connecting with people. She suggests using social media in moderation to prevent low self-esteem, depression, and suicidal thoughts. These platforms may help or hurt users, depending on their usage. So, limitations must apply so as not to fall into addiction. The author’s suggestion is to avoid irrelevant posts or content that makes users feel bad.

The book covers tips for social media usage, such as turning off notifications, taking breaks, and avoiding it in the morning and at night. Ellen promoted talking to someone face-to-face, as it is beneficial and therapeutic. Going to public places and talking to strangers are recommendations I love from Ellen. However, she provides the pros and cons of it: staying in safe places and not being carried away easily.

Ellen also stated that having a solid network of supportive friends and family enhances mental, physical, and emotional health. I can’t agree more. Depression and social anxiety are familiar to me, and I agree with the author that support from loved ones is very helpful. This priceless book also challenges me to unmask myself, come out of my shell, and face my fears. I must confess that the pandemic arouses my social anxiety and loneliness. Ellen overcame them, and like her, I want to break these barriers and enjoy the company of others. Though it’s hard to execute, I think it’s now time to apply her valuable advice, especially the one about talking to strangers. This becomes one of my goals after I read this book.

I appreciate the incorporation of impactful quotes at the start of each chapter. The intelligible writing style of the author and the exceptional editing are worth mentioning. With everything to consider, I abundantly rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. Besides, there was nothing in the book that seemed objectionable to me. So, a full score is well-deserved for Ellen Dawson's encouraging book.

Individuals who want to step out of isolation and activate social connections again will benefit from this book. With baby steps, the title You Can Talk To Anyone will indeed be achievable!
