Review of YOU CAN TALK TO ANYONE:
Loneliness is one of the main issues in today's society, and it has gotten worse since the COVID pandemic. People may experience social isolation for a variety of reasons, including the loss of a loved one, a traumatic childhood event, a severe separation from or move away from friends or family, or social marginalisation. After her father's passing, the author herself withdrew into isolation, therefore she uses actual examples to describe how she reestablished social connection. 'You Can Talk to Anyone' is a book that takes the reader on a journey that begins with identifying the source of loneliness and concludes with a plan for reestablishing social connections.
According to Ellen Dawson, feeling lonely is an inescapable emptiness that triggers anxiety and depression. She has provided extensive explanations of the relationship between mental health and hope, the advantages of interacting with others for one's health, and a number of useful methods for enhancing social skills and preventing social retreat. An interesting conversation on old versus new mindsets and some facts offered by the plastic surgeon Maxwell Maltz that "it takes at least 21 days to dissolve an old mental image and to gel a new one" were helpful supplements to my existing knowledge.
Ellen offered helpful advice for ending the cycle of isolation and fostering strong social ties. Face-to-face communication is encouraged by Ellen because it has positive and therapeutic effects. She advised speaking to strangers in public settings. The book includes advice on using social media. The best part of the book is how Ellen also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each social media platform as well as safety advice for going out and approaching strangers.
This book is for you if you're someone who wishes to overcome isolation through strong social connections. In the book's concluding chapter, Ellen describes how to apply the discussed communication techniques to create connections. What draws people to us? The value of friendship to young people, benefits and difficulties of friendship in adult relationships. People like me who are hesitant to form friendships will find this book to be of great assistance.
I appreciate Ellen Dawson's perceptive writing. She has presented everything using real-world examples in a way that even the average person can easily understand. It was fascinating to read the suggestions Ellen included for reducing obstacles to establishing a social connection. It's admirable how powerful quotes were used at the start of each chapter. Since this book did not offend me in any way. I'm obliged to give it a score of 5 out of 5.
