This review is well done and expresses the historical inclusion of the story. Adding a dead man in the kitchen added another layer to this picture of an extended family coming to settle in Boston. This novel sounds interesting for historical reasons as well as for an added look at settling in a new country. The death adds even more to this experience.

After reading a sample, I can say that the author's writing is truly immersive. It's a nice story with many subplots that would keep a reader interested.

I love the review. I did appreciate the character introductions at the start of book. I tend to go back and forth as I read to keep characters in check. Stories surrounding change of life from one land to another has always been of interest. Amazing how much people endure to make ends meet while starting a new life.

Ohh, this is a historical mystery, not a historical romance, that makes it more interesting. I love how you said you 'played a detective without success' as that's my favourite way of reading. I'm curious as to why the boring part didn't encourage you to drop a star, but I'll read it for myself and see. Thank you.

Good review. I wonder what happened to this seemingly innocent family. You mentioned extraneous details in the book; I hope these were kept to a minimum.

There is nothing I don't like in this book - starting from the title, continuing with a selected historical period and ending with the storyline. It has always fascinated me to compare customs and views of times long passed with modern society. I would really like to see the life of from Captain Jeffrey and his lovely wife's perspective. Congrats on BOTD!

The author does definitely have a respectable writing style. I appreciate how Mary Ann Trail kept the prose authentic while also making it understandable and simple to follow. Finding that balance might be challenging, but in this case, it greatly enhanced the reading experience. Without without trying, the story drew me in, and I anxiously turned the pages to find out what would happen next.

Thank you for your thorough review and for clarifying the mix of genres in this book. I was confused because the cover looked like a romance, but the story seemed to be more of a historical mystery. Congrats on BOTD!

"Their Winter Burn" by Mary Ann Trail tells the story of Captain Jeffrey Chadwick. His business idea was to supply Boston with wine from Bordeaux and make money that way. However, fate will have slightly different plans with the capable Captain Chadwick.
