I haven't read many historical mysteries. I like that this set during winter but repetitive writing or overly descriptive writing can be annoying. Great review.

Thank you for the thorough review. I appreciate that you added your dislike of the details in such a polite way. Based on how you presented it, it doesn't deter me from reading the book.

I also appreciate the comment on the amount of romance. Being a mother of a 2 year old, I hate sitting there reading a book just to have to put it down because a romance scene pops up.

I am intrigued by how this revelation would affect the immigrants' lives. I am also fascinated by how the Boston residents would perceive the immigrants.

I do love a mystery! This one, set in historical Boston, centers around Captain Jeffrey Chadwick and his delightful wife, Georgina. Newly arrived in Boston, they have arranged to meet the landlord at the rental property. However, while looking over house, they happen across a dead body in the basement! The mystery deepens as it appears that the authorities decide that it was an unfortunate accident . I will enjoy delving into this mystery. Thanks for an excellent review. :techie-studyinggray:

After reading your review, I will read the entire book! The sample was not long enough, and the cover looked like a romance novel. Thank you for letting everyone know that the book really is a historical mystery. It sounds like a wonderful book. I look forward to reading it.

"Their Winter Burn" written by Mary Ann Trail tells a story of an immigrant family that follows their ambition to explore and discover the "American Dream" of starting a successful wine business in the city of Boston during the 1800s. The cover of the book, at first glance, would suggest to me that this novel unfolds with an intimate romance in the plot. However, from the review of this book it shows very minor romantic scenes and gives the details of what the culture, economy, technology, and daily activities of life were like in Boston during this historical period. Readers that enjoy an adventure included with struggles to overcome will gravitate to this read. Congratulations on BOTD and a great review!

'Official Review: Their Winter Burn' by Mary Ann Trail well sketches out the story of the book for readers. It brings to their knowledge all the important points of the book. The point that the book is a historical mystery that describes the migration struggles experienced by Jeffrey Chadwick and his household during an extreme cold winter period is worth mentioning in the review. Also, as mentioned in the review, the point that the readers are transported back to the nineteenth century where they could experience the culture, technology, economy, conflict, and activities of the people of Boston in the Americas in the 1800s is remarkable. It was great to learn that the character development by the author was pretty fascinating as we find the characters to be fully realized, unique, and relatable!

I really liked your review, and I'm glad you enjoyed the book. You also confirmed my suspicion that the book isn't a romance novel like the cover seems to suggest. Thanks for your thoughts.

I like this review. It is pretty much how I see this read. So 4 out of 4 for the review. I expected a romance. The introduction of married couples and the life they made in the New World marred by a mystery right in the home they are about to rent, definitely stopped me wondering about who would love who. Not sure where the title fits in but it is definitely my kind of story. I agree about the extra detail which holds up a reader from progressing through the story. Otherwise well earned BOTD.

Mary Ann Trail's "Their Winter Burn" masterfully transports readers to the harsh realities of 19th century America, offering a captivating glimpse into the migration struggles faced by Jeffrey Chadwick and his household. The author's ability to evoke the culture, technology, and atmosphere of the time is truly commendable. The character development adds depth to the narrative, making individuals like Mairi and Georgina feel both relatable and endearing. While the occasional extraneous details may have disrupted the plot's flow, the overall impact of the book remains undiminished. With a skillful blend of historical mystery and adventure, this work is unquestionably deserving of its 5-star rating. Young adult readers seeking a journey into the past will find "Their Winter Burn" an enriching experience.

I really like how this review gives you an anticipation to read the book because the reader was able to go through a suspenseful experience just reading through the chapters. The cover throws off what you think it may be about so definitely a book to add to the list of reads.
