Good review. You started by describing how exceptional Thoral was; you spent too many sentences doing that, in my opinion. I had to wait for the third paragraph before I understood Thoral's main purpose; this should have come earlier. Otherwise, I liked the review. Also, I wonder how you figured the main character had a strange accent. In an audiobook?

It's good to know that one can write a tongue-in-cheek fantasy and make it work. I'm not much of a reader of fantasy books, so this isn't the right book for me. But bravo to the author for adding a nifty new spin to an old genre.

Starting the sample, I first thought we were headed into a Young Adult novel. Then the comedy grew, then the writing tied the humor together with threads of traditional fantasy and then I was interested. I was not sure whether this read would be entertaining for me, so I needed a review to help me decide. Yours did the trick, validating and expanding upon my first impression, helping me decide to add the book to my list, talking fish and all. It may not be hardcore fantasy, but it is entertaining fantasy and that is enough. After 50 years of reading the genre, a little laughter is quite welcome!

Thank you for the synopsis and for the considered treatment of a story that might be easily dismissed. Also for commenting on the quality of the writing as I was wondering if that would hold up! I hope I enjoy it as much as you did, but I will give it a try in part because of this review and its promise of blended humor and action.

Going by the book description, I didn't think I would like this genre. It spoke about a depressed barbarian warrior and his best friend, who happened to be a talking Koi fish. Together, will Thoral and Brad, be able to recover the lost Pudding of Power? Your review was well-summarized and balanced. However, the sample pages did not excite me much. I am not interested in this type of fantasy novel, so I will skip it. Congratulations on the BOTD!

Not surprisingly the reviewer hit the nail on the head about this enjoyable romp of a farcical fantasy, full of absurd and unpredictable plot twists and happening's. It is not suitable for children, as the violence is extreme but it is too funny to be totally gross, 4 out of 4 for this great review. I enjoyed the sample. A totally unique reading experience.
