Re: Harry Potter: do you prefer the books or the movies

Oh thats a hard question. Normally, my answer would be hands down books are better, but the Harry Potter series went hard with the movies. There are choices the films made like omitting big information, and taking away character traits from big roles like Ron, but here's the thing - and people are gonna hate me for this I know - I found the books utterly boring. See, my parents loved Harry Potter it was a big deal in our house until the chaos in 2019 and it being categorically banned from said house out of love for my older sibling who is trans. But when I was little it was everything. My mom read me the books while she was breastfeeding me, my dad left when I was a sick baby crying in the middle of the night to go stand in line to pre order one of the books, it was a big deal. We saw all the movies like 100 times and had them all on dvd. But when I was in middle school I realized that my parents hadn't read the books to me since I was three and I hardly remembered them. So I went to the bookshelf and decided to read them myself. I found them dry. And not like haha funny I'm British dry, dry like walking alone in the Mohave on the fourth of July kind of dry. I DNFed Order of the Phoenix about 8 times before I finally got through it. All in all the series took me six months to get through and I read FAST. Like a book in a few hours kind of fast. Is books Ron better in every possible way? Yes. Was Rupert Grint robbed of an opportunity to play his snarkiness in all its savvy glory? Also yes. Then there's Ginny's character and all the VITAL information at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban that was just conspicuously absent from the film which is kind of a big deal, but again the books just feel like supplements for the movies to me. I think the books do a lot of telling, like "this is the way this thing is" and "this person was like this" and I personally struggle to feel engaged with that kind of writing style especially with my ADHD. The writing was just never immersive enough for me, but I loved the world and the characters because I loved the films. So I think to fully appreciate Harry Potter people need to both read the books (for the big context stuff) and watch the movies (cause they're super good), but I do think the movies are ultimately better. But if you're gonna watch or read now and you don't already own the series please consider using a library and streaming if you have them!

Ahhh, well i really enjoyed the movies because of the cinematography and all the imagination put in there, but i personally prefer the books, because the characters have more deep story, like All the weasley had more mentions in the books. We can see what really harry is going through, but in the movie they put him like a dumb and angry boy, wich we know is kind of true, but he is more than that, he has humor and more personality even when he's going though tuff things, and the Hinny relationship in the movies?? it's so awkward and bad, they put ginny like a silly and shy girl, wich she's not!. And we can't forget about the real story about how voldemort found out about the prophecy like, we can see the real Snape, and we also can see about more about James Potter and his friends, and howchange the friendship snape and lily had. We also can see more characters like the other professor of adivination and the poltergeist

Probably none, I've never been a fan of mystic, magic-filled fantasies. But if I were to pick, nah, I can't

Books. The movies are like a fun visual companion, but the books have all those extra details and emotions that really make the whole wizarding experience come alive!

I read the Harry Potter books before watching the movies and like all book to movie adaptations, they left out a lot. Not that the movies are bad though but the characters in the movie didn't have as much depth and life like that. I do love the movies but Harry Potter books all the way

Personally, I prefer the book to movie because it is easier to understand the story and I can always go back to re-reading the book whenever I want to.

I enjoy both the books and the movies. However, the books provide additional details that are not present in the films.

I definitely prefer books when it comes to any and all movies! I always feel like my own imagination steals the show so much more than the director's cut. I also find that films can never cover all the detail and subtleties that books can; therefore, the characters come to life so much more in the book! One of the things I find disappointing about movies is the industry's willingness to diverge from the storyline for additional sensationalism.

I have not read Harry Potter’s books , I have only s en movies ,but based on other books that I have read and was converted into movies . I prefer books . Books have a different charm and you can feel all the emotions. In movies they usually change the plot which I do not like at all .

I liked both the books and the movies. While the books give you a deeper understanding of the storyline the movie gives a more visual perspective to the book, even though there is many things that is missing from the movies. If you read the book after watching the movies, like I did, it's easier to picture the Harry Potter World more vividly.
