Can e-books replace paperbacks?

I hope not! E-books cant compare to holding the physical book in your hands.

I honestly don't think e-books will every truly replace paper books, unless we just completely run out of paper to print them on. E-books make things convenient for travel and living in limited space, but, for me anyway, nothing beats reading a paper book.

Although e-readers may be more convenient, there is something about the feel of a book, even the smell, that comforts and makes me so happy to be holding that book, and waiting to crack it open and read.

I believe there is room for both. As a space-saving device and for travel, ebooks are terrific. If ebooks had existed years ago, I would not have a house with so many books in it, and would have lots more space. On the other hand, real books, a cup of tea, and a cat or dog or two equals cozy comfort in my view.

Agreed, I need to touch the book and turn pages to connect, it's like letters, when my husband was deploy he had some limited e-mail access and I'd e-mail just so I knew he'd have something in his in-box whenever he had the chance to check daily "I Love You", but there was something about holding on to something he had also held to write that made letters way more special and vice-versa

There's nothing like the feel of papyrus. This new fangled "paper" made from rags or wood, it's a fad. there's nothing like the feeling when you unroll a fresh scroll ...

Pay television? Who would pay for television when it is available for free?

Multi-plex movies theaters? Screens aren't big enough, there's nothing like the big screen in a golden era movie theater.

Drive-ins? Best of all worlds, big screen, bring your own snacks, realx in the car, listen to sound over the AM radio built into every car...

Nothing could replace the simple pleasure of holding a book and turning the pages, but e-readers are so convenient for travelling, I adore mine!

I think the question is what generation we are addressing. For those of us who recall the pleasure of holding our favorite chapter book between our two hands, thumbing the pages, sleeping beside it in the warmth of our childhood rooms, then nothing will ever replace the traditional book. Ebooks are convenient. They are much more affordable. They make sense. And, eventually, memories will be of buying the first ebook as a child and it will be just as wonderful. But for me, a book is something you can hold, embrace by the fire, and cherish, not something you click away.

I understand reading things that you need to read for work, project, or new skill as an eBook. There is something that make me never want to read novels electronically. I believe it is the fact that I can see my progress. I can see how many pages to the next chapter, how many chapters are left, and become encouraged and accomplished just by a simple look at how far in I am. No matter how you examine your kindle, there is no way to feel these things. I often feel in this situation that the book will never end. I have a much harder time getting through anything online.

Never. Ebooks are convenient and popular but they're in their own niche. I don't think they'll replace paperbacks. I still find many people who enjoy the comfort of a book they can turn the pages of, of having actual books in their hands and I'm one of them! I don't mind reading online but I love traditional books. I don't think they'll ever be replaced.

Ebooks are great for travel and convenience if you do not have the light to read an actual book. There are more and more Ebooks being published every year, but I do not think that they will replace paperbacks.

Never! e-books just strain your eyes and paper books are easier to carry anywhere and everywhere and can be handled easily than carrying around a kindle wherever you go.
