An abbreviated guide to entrepreneurship by Phats B is a concise and comprehensive overview of entrepreneurship. It is an introduction to this field, and it would be suitable for aspiring entrepreneurs and possibly experienced entrepreneurs who want to keep abreast of current industry standards, such as using data analytics and social media to increase revenue. The scope of the material that the author presented is broad, ranging from the skills and mindset of successful entrepreneurs to their ethical and social obligations. Although most of the material the author presented is not novel—you may have stumbled on it elsewhere—the author emphasized that employees, customers, and collaborators are crucial in building a sustainable entrepreneurial venture, which I found refreshing.

I love how the author recognized that entrepreneurial skills, though innate in some individuals, can be nurtured through learning and practice. Furthermore, the author said we should practice positive self-talk and believe in our abilities. All of these will be useful to less-confident, aspiring entrepreneurs.

The author advocates for entrepreneurship, which is ethically aware and purpose-driven, as opposed to the traditional profit-based approach. To achieve this, entrepreneurs should seek the well-being of their employees and be open to their suggestions and feedback. The author encourages using data-driven techniques to study the target market before launching the product and foster customer engagement after releasing the product through social media platforms and influencer collaborations so that customers always receive high-quality products. Entrepreneurs should run their businesses in ways that care for the planet. They also need to ensure that their partners in the supply chain uphold their ethical standards.

There were a few things I did not like about this book. In the first chapter, the author tried to differentiate between entrepreneurial spirit and entrepreneurial flair, but this distinction is not evident. I think a few concrete examples would have highlighted these nuances. Besides, some of the skills or attributes of entrepreneurial spirit are the same as entrepreneurial flair, making many of them redundant. There were redundant sentences or themes throughout the book. Ideas like surrounding oneself with like-minded people have appeared multiple times. I did not expect so much redundancy in a short book like this.

I rate this book five stars out of five. Although a few themes were redundant throughout the book, I don’t think it changed my appreciation of this book, which is, overall, a fantastic introduction and review of what works in entrepreneurship. This book is well-edited, except for one grammatical error that I found. There are no instances of profanity, sexuality, or violent content in this book. I recommend this book to readers of all religions.
