Review of America's Sherlock Holmes, The Life and Times of William J. Flynn
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to come from the lineage of the first-ever F.B.I.? How about coming from the line of the first-ever mafia crime family? What a roller coaster that would be!
This book, America's Sherlock Holmes, The Life and Times of William J. Flynn by Jonathan Gregory Reed, is a non-fiction masterpiece that provides all the truth about the facts some of us may already know. I usually say that if you have a claim, ensure that you have supporting evidence. Else, your claim will be invalid. This book provides all the evidence needed to support the author's claims. Some may have heard that J. Edgar was the first F.B.I. director. This book offers evidence that he was not, and the author's grandfather was, in fact, the first-ever F.B.I.
Now, some may ask, on what course did the author go through all the stress to prove his grandfather's achievements? But you find that this book needs to be put out there. It's one thing not to know the correct facts and go by whatever you are told. It is a totally different ballgame when you know the accurate facts and have means of confirming them but choose to publish and distribute false information purposefully. There were many stories in this book that you'd love to read and know for yourself. The fact that they are not made-up words made it all better.
I love the honesty of the author. While reading this book, I, too, asked if all of these things being revealed were truly necessary, but as I read on, I realized the author didn't write this book for the fame or recognition the book would bring to his family again. I realized this was a son trying to defend his father's honor. It may not mean much to others, but it means the world to the author. One instance he cited in this book was when a Hollywood movie was directed about his grandfather and contained several made-up stories about him and his family life. The author took the extra step to at least correct the narrative, and the director bluntly stated that he didn't care if the stories were made; he had to deliver a story he thought the people would like. This made me extremely sad because these are the realities of most of our media personalities. The media write whatever they want about these stars and publish them, not minding what harm would be done to the star's image or the damage to their family generally. In Mr. William, I saw a devoted citizen who did what needed to be done for him and his nation.
I am happy to have read this book. Even if it doesn't get as much publicity as it should, I am grateful to have stumbled on it, and I hope many other people come in contact with this book. At least I now know the truth behind the histories we are taught. Nothing bothered me about the book. It was excellently written, with excellent editing and formatting. The pictures were placed correctly and clearly despite being dated far back. For these reasons, I rate the book five out of five stars. Speak your truth; it does not matter who is not listening; what matters is who is listening.
This book is best suited for readers of all ages; the contents of this book should be added to our history books.
