Review of Phobia Relief
Most of the time, our thoughts and feelings guide how we behave and react in the real world. If we have had an unfavorable experience in the past, we may avoid trying things that are uncomfortable. The reason for such discomfort could be that we are either nervous of repeating the past events or we have developed some kind of phobia towards the thing.
In the book Phobia Relief by Kalliope Barlis, the author discusses methods for overcoming phobias if we have any. He also discusses the reasons why we develop phobias toward particular things or events, what aspects of our lives are impacted by this fear, and offers some measures for overcoming these fears
The author's argument in this book is that our thinking is influenced by how we feel, and so in order to find relief from our phobias, he encourages us to change the way we think and feel. To do this, he explains the relationships between feeling and thinking in greater detail, educates us on how to reframe our thinking, and shares various types of exercises to shrink our fears.
The discussion on how to reframe our thinking and increase our awareness of feelings drew me. Aside from that, I felt the book to be very philosophical and less practical, and I had trouble understanding the narrative and the book's structure. In addition, I believe the narrative would have benefited from having more client cases. In some sections, I had difficulty comprehending what was being discussed. Last but not least, I found the book to be less in-depth than the topic discussed. All in all, I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
Even though the book is precise, it does assist us grasp what phobia is and how it affects an individual. In order to gain a basic idea of how to overcome phobias, Phobia Relief by Kalliope Barlis can give us important knowledge and educate us on how to deal with it. So my recommendations for this book is to read it to gain a basic grasp of fears and phobias. The book is well edited no profanities were discovered but there were some errors. We see the world through a totally different lens when we learn to face our fears and this book helps us get a basic understanding of how to do it.
