"NIMUE: Freeing Merlin" by Ayn Cates Sullivan weaves a tale that spans across time and realms, immersing readers in a rich and captivating narrative. Divided into three acts, the story introduces us to the modern-day character of Nina, a 17-year-old girl about to embark on a life-altering journey. Moving to Britain with her mother, Nina is an ordinary teenager, unaware of the extraordinary destiny that awaits her.

The story begins with Nina's recurring dream, one that features a mysterious lady draped in a shimmering green dress with mesmerizing pale-violet eyes. This woman introduces herself as Nina's best friend and her worst enemy. She calls Nina a "mage" and assigns her a monumental task: to free Merlin, a name that holds an ancient and powerful resonance.

As Nina grapples with the mystique of her dreams and the unfolding events, readers are drawn into a world where the Arthurian legend comes alive. The author, Ayn Cates Sullivan, has clearly undertaken extensive research, painting a vivid landscape that is both well-detailed and immersive. The descriptions are so vividly portrayed that I found myself witnessing the events unfold before my own eyes.

One of the thought-provoking aspects of the book is the question raised by Nimue: "But why? Why can't the Goddess just touch the land and allow all people to blossom into their fullness?" This inquiry resonates not only within the realm of fiction but also echoes in our own reality. It invites readers to contemplate the complexities of destiny, power, and transformation.

What makes "NIMUE: Freeing Merlin" truly intriguing is its seamless blend of the modern and the mystical, the ordinary and the extraordinary. As Nina's journey unfolds, readers will be captivated by the timeless themes of self-discovery and the quest for wholeness. The story delves deep into the Arthurian legend, breathing fresh life into its characters and lore, inviting us to embark on a journey that traverses time and imagination. The character development in the book is outstanding, allowing us to connect deeply with the protagonists. There's nothing I dislike about this book; it is well-edited. What I liked most about the book is that it made me feel like I was watching a movie, thanks to its beautiful descriptions. I wholeheartedly rate it 5 out of 5. However, I'm left wanting to know what happened to Evienne and Myrdinn in the end. I wish this book had a second part.

Intriguing and enchanting, "NIMUE: Freeing Merlin" is a book that will linger in your thoughts long after you've turned its final page. For those who crave tales that bridge the realms of reality and myth, this book promises a captivating adventure that is both timeless and modern. Dive into the world of Nimue and discover the magic that lies within the pages of this extraordinary narrative.

Nimue and Merlin's story was indeed intriguing. As Nimue discovered more about herself, the story kept taking new fascinating dimensions. I also appreciated the book's theme of magic and ancient folklore.

Not many stories that combine modern and mystical elements execute this feature well. Will NIMUE: Freeing Merlin be the exceptional one?
