Phrases like 'fake news' and 'disinformation' have indeed fueled growing distrust, and the polarization of society has made it harder to find common ground. In my opinion, politics and the media have played a very dark role in our society. Nevertheless, I do respect that you now appreciate the news media's role in our democratic way of life. I could not recommend this book strongly enough! I was so done with all news before I read this book. After, I felt guilty for becoming part of the problem and relegating my voice. Your take on politics and media having a dark role in our society is spot on! I would say that this book let me see a brighter side of media as well as people (in politics) using it positive ways, if you can believe that I honestly did not see the connection between media and our democratic way of life, which is why this book appealed to me so much. Gerry, this is one of the best non-fiction books I have read this year. It made me really think hard about information and news. It took me a lot longer to read than my other books, due to the amount of time I had to take to reflect as well as thoroughly comprehend what the author was trying to get after. I thoroughly enjoyed the insightful analysis of this promising read. This book deserves a wider audience, reaching both those who create media and the consumers who engage with it. Many people remain unaware and tend to accept information blindly, while those in charge seem to have lost sight of fundamental honesty. It's a troubling situation, as media outlets are often controlled by the powerful and wealthy. I hope I have the opportunity to review it soon.
