Review of Detective Stan the Crayon Man and the Missing Birthday Cake
Children will enjoy reading "Christine Tussing's book Detective Stan the Crayon Man and the Case of the Missing Birthday Cake". When a young boy by the name of Stan noticed that Pretty Pink was in distress, he didn't waste any time getting his cape and magnifying glass and sprang into action to find out what was going on. Pretty Pink reported to him that a birthday cake that she had just finished baking, which she left for a few seconds to serve, had vanished without a trace. Will Stan be able to find out who stole the cake?
The illustrations were wonderful for the target audience; they had lively characters, and they were a fantastic match for the content that they accompanied. The way it was written was clear and didn't provide too much detail at once for the audience that was intended to read it. The use of the colour that corresponded to each word helped bring attention to those words. The author goes as far as including a colour chart after the story so that the youngster who is reading it can engage with the material.
I thought it was really great how the author sometimes drew attention to the background, which will help the child relate to the visuals. I also really liked how vibrant the colours were, and I think that the illustrations will be really fun for children to look at just as much as they made it for me. I liked how the material was straightforward and simple to comprehend and follow. I believe that it is never too early for a youngster to start learning, and that includes the subject of colour, which is something that children may learn from this book. I thought it was very creative how the author named the crayons, and I even laughed at how appropriate the names seemed to be.
This book gets a perfect score of 5 out of 5 stars from me because I couldn't find a single thing to criticise about it. The reader can investigate alongside Stan on this fun-filled mystery adventure. The illustrations are entertaining and approachable for the target audience, and the absence of typos leads me to believe that the book has been edited to perfection.
I recommend this book to youngsters as young as a newborn and as old as eight years old who appreciate a good mystery, vibrant colours, and perhaps even the opportunity to learn something about colour theory.
