Re: Are Books Disappearing?

I think there are many out there that still prefer paper books. I have switched to e-books because I can't keep a lot of books around with my allergies to molds and dusts. This way I can refer to the books and re-read them if I choose without having to store them. I still love the feel of a paper book in my hands.

I personally feel like book are disappearing in this age of technology. The moment that Borders closed was the moment that I thought the era of the physical book was coming to a horrifying end. It is very sad, I now see less and less book stores. It kind of saddens me but I still prefer books over E-books any day and I hope that we do not reach the day in which the book will be no more. I once had a teacher whom began to cry just at the thought of books diminishing, to her, having a book in which she can turn the pages and she can inhale its scent, was a very therapeutic thing.

While I am more of an e-book person now it is mostly because of health reasons that I prefer it over print. I certainly hope that the paper book does not vanish.

I feel as if physical books are disappearing, but not books and reading overall. I've seen pretty many people reading all the time. It may not be a physical book, but an ebook. As for the 18 year old range, i feel as they are losing their touch with reading because phones are in the way of that. Besides that, I feel as if going to the library is disappearing and we use ebooks instead.

As long as there are people who enjoy holding a book in their hands and reading it that way there will always be books. People who enjoy collecting books, reading them again and again make great conversation pieces and also encourages children to respect the book.

Literacy is a major skill which keeps our societies functioning. Does it matter what form of communication we use?
No. And I think it's the same as reading. Books will be around for a long, long time but will share with e-books.

I also don't believe physical books are disappearing. They'll be here. They've always been reliable. It makes me happy to see my local bookstore crowded with people searching through paper books. They're here to stay!

It seems they are at schools in my area. My stepsons public high school is experimenting with tablets for text books for one grade. It is in its second year. My kids go to a catholic school that in grades 3-8 have iPads they use. I know the forth grade science book was on it. The only down side to that was that the iPads could not leave the school.

I don't believe that actual books will disappear. The glare from some e-Readers has caused a few friends to revert back to actual books. Ebooks just make it a little quicker to get the books and a little easier to keep them all for reference. Books are here to stay.

I can easily say that one day everybody will buy e-books instead of books. But we need better technology, our e-book readers cannot show big book pages such as maps. We need more than 10 inch size high resolution, light weight e-book readers. That day will come and our children will not want to buy ordinary books and if they want to buy they won't be able to find them.

I think there will always be a demand for certain books. People like to display books in their homes. E-books have there place as well and more books and people will be reading this way, but I don't think that paper books will disappear completely.

I still prefer paper backs, a lot of people now will read the ebook version and then make a decision before buying an actual copy of the book. I love and always will love the feel of a paper book in my hands and even the way it smells. :)
