Review of WatchDogs Abnormal Beginnings
In 2020, Dr. Drake Nathan created a special chip to make people healthier, but it accidentally changed their DNA, causing the population to boom. By 2532, Earth was in big trouble, and most people died from toxic air. Only 1% survived, and they gathered in Georgia, but over time, they split into five nations. The survivors' descendants began showing unique abilities due to their altered DNA. They are called 'Abnormals'. These abilities made them different, and they faced discrimination. So, they formed groups called guilds to support them.
This background sets the stage for "Watchdogs: Abnormal Beginnings'' by Mike L. Junior, a story about these extraordinary individuals and their adventures in a post-apocalyptic world. Kaarina and Monty are Abnormals who want to travel to Xenora, to join a guild of Abnormals. They encounter Cole on their journey, and he volunteers to take them to Xenora, surpassing the Dead Zone, a dangerous zone where people hardly escape alive. Also lurking in the shadows are the Slayers, whose sole mission is to eliminate Abnormals. The question remains: will they make it to Xenora, or fall prey to the relentless Slayers? Dive into the book to uncover the thrilling answers.
The book proved to be an absolute page-turner. Within its pages, the characters' development and their intricate backstories are laid out comprehensively, enriching the reader's understanding. The fight scenes are vividly portrayed, immersing readers in the intensity of each battle. What truly sets this story apart are the distinct abilities of each Abnormal. For example, Kaarina can see the future, Monty can bend reality, and Cole has the power to control his nerves, allowing him to endure pain momentarily, even though he'll feel it later. Cole, with his seemingly less advantageous ability, often rises to face formidable challenges. How does he manage this feat? He achieves this with sheer willpower and advanced thinking—a power we can all harness.
What left me slightly unsatisfied with this book was the noticeable lack of meticulous editing. Throughout the story, I stumbled upon numerous minor errors that occasionally pulled me out of the narrative's flow. The naming mix-ups were particularly befuddling, like "As Greg took several quick punches from Greg." Now, imagine the confusion—it's Arthur on the receiving end of those swift punches from Greg. Despite these occasional hiccups, I must admit the plot was truly captivating. The potential of this story is undeniable, and addressing these minor issues through thorough editing and proofreading would undoubtedly improve the reading experience. I rate this book 4 out of 5, deducting one point for editing issues and the occasional use of incorrect names. As the first installment in this series, it left me on a tantalizing cliffhanger, eager to discover what comes next. On a side note, don't be misled by the book cover; no werewolves here!
This book is meant for adults because it has sexual content, strong language, violent scenes, and also mentions rape. If you're an adult looking for an adrenaline rush, this is the perfect book for you.

I also thought the book had something to do with werewolves but I'm glad you clarified. This kind of story is exactly my cup of tea and I would to try it soon.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I truly appreciate your support. It's a great point you raise about the importance of professional editing; it can indeed elevate the reading experience. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this book. Happy reading!Stephen Christopher 1 wrote: ↑10 Nov 2023, 21:48 Thanks, Anu; I'm a fan of your reviews. This book is on my list to read, and the storyline sounds right up my alley. There seems to be a spate of poorly edited books currently doing the rounds. I'm at a loss to understand why an author wouldn't pay (it's not that much) a professional editor to ensure their work is up to par. Having said that, I'm going to give this one a go and let you know if I loved it as much as you did. Ps. too bad about the werewolves![]()

Indeed, it's unfortunate that the issues persisted, and I agree that professional editing can significantly enhance the storytelling. The plot was quite engaging, but the lack of editing proved to be distracting. Thank you for sharing your perspective on the book. Your input is valuable, and I'm grateful for your continuous support.RJ Reviews wrote: ↑11 Nov 2023, 10:40 I read this book a while back and was disheartened by the numerous errors that hampered the reading experience. Disappointed to know that it still contains errors. The storytelling would've been really benefited from a round of professional editing.
