Review of Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem
Knowing fully well that racism is still in existence and hasn't fully been eradicated, it is quite difficult for people of different races to feel safe with each other. When this issue of discrimination takes over the affairs of an organization or institution, it results in poor performance. So, how do you deal with it? This book has a solution read-up.
Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem by Dr. Frank L. Douglas is a nonfiction research book that is focused on addressing racism and discrimination, just as the name implies. Racism and discrimination are not new. It has been practiced for centuries, with deadly consequences, by both religious and governmental entities. Each professed a creed that paid little attention to Equity or Inclusion (two helpful strategies in the book). Leaders of organizations must consider that a Psychologically Toxic Culture (PTC), a culture with low Equity and low Inclusion, might be causing significant emotional harm to their employees. This is greatly discussed in this book.
When I started reading this book, it came as a bore to me. As I continued reading, there were so important aspects that grabbed my attention and I couldn't help but wonder about them. This book is not just an ordinary book. It has facts and points that you wouldn't want to miss or ignore that talk mainly on racism and discrimination, and how it affects so many organizations where the blacks are being oppressed, bullied, denied positions and privileges, and so on. To fully make the situation clear, the author did 18 case studies of different black individuals and what they are going through, or went through in their various workplaces. This authentic presentation is what I loved about the book. There you'll read about their complaints and possible solutions. It was enlightening.
This book is one of the most straightforward books I have ever read on racism and discrimination. He didn't just use points and facts, he interviewed actual people. He let them tell their stories and gave ways they could be addressed. This alone is helpful to others who are going through the same situation. This alone didn't give me any reason to dislike the book.
Finally, I rate this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book is systematic and helpful. Overall, it is exceptionally edited with no typos. I believe this book well deserves my rating. I recommend it to those who are going through racism and discrimination. Readers who want to get insights too would benefit from this book.
