Cracks Like Glue

To be loved by another
is to be loved in bits and pieces
What I've learned
from nearly four decades
of broken hearts
from half-hearted love
and fair-weather friends
from monkey-branched lovers
and sweet fleeting nights
from reuniting
and long re-lost brothers
from the dark silence of unrung phones
and the cold quiet echoes
of the things we wish we never said
Is you're the only one
who knows the whole of you
who sees the cracks like glue
who sees how the pieces all fit together
As something so lovable and whole and true
And if you're looking to truly be loved
The only person who can really do it
is you
All love is self-love
And you're never really alone
Because separation is an illusion
And they only ever really love you
When they see the fleeting reflection of themself
In the shattered glass of you
'An other' is just the words we use
for another you
They can never see what you see
from inside the broken mirror
They only see the bits and pieces
The fleeting glimmers and sparkling twinkles
The brief reflections of themselves
In the shattered glass of everything they thought was you
What do you think?

Embrace your uniqueness. Others may not see everything, but that’s okay.
