Following Noel's graduation from college in 1968, he and his eleven close friends established "The Best of Friends" (TBOF) as a social club with the intent of hosting dance parties reminiscent of those they enjoyed in their college fraternities and social clubs. While their social club's primary vision was to create fun, they encountered significant challenges within their group, leading to numerous tough decisions.

The book After Dark: The Birth of the Disco Dance Party by Noel Hankin explores the historical origins of the Disco Dance Party in New York City among the African-American community in the 1960s. It delves into their struggles as they persevered against all odds to achieve their envisioned goal.

The author demonstrates a remarkable level of thoroughness in his writing. Every aspect of the book is well-structured and captivating. The book combines elements of history, narrative, and compelling storytelling. I couldn't put it down until I reached the last page. I absorbed valuable lessons from the book, starting with Noel's advice, "If you don't manage your own life, others will manage it for you." Furthermore, I learned the fundamental principle of entrepreneurship: the importance of making an impact rather than seeking personal gain. TBOF's vision for impact, when they started their club, serves as a prime example, and they maintained their uncompromised rules and regulations by staying true to their vision. The author effectively emphasizes relationship and leadership skills. I also appreciate the author's seamless transitions between historical accounts and the present day.

This is one of the finest historical books I have ever read. The chapters are excellently crafted, and free from unnecessary additions. There is absolutely nothing to criticize in this work. The book has been exceptionally well-edited, devoid of errors. Therefore, I wholeheartedly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it to leadership experts, entrepreneurs, and anyone interested in reading a well-crafted historical narrative. It is suitable for both young and adult readers.
